Junction City is located on Interstate 70 and is right next to Fort Riley which is the home of the 1st Infantry Division. Junction City is a central retail hub for the area. It is also the county seat for Geary County government.

Fort Riley has a $3.6 billion economic impact on the area. The 1st Infantry Division Post is the ocial newspaper of the installation. Copies are mailed to the 3,900 homes located on the fort as well as distributed to day rooms, barracks and other locations throughout the region.

To the north, the Wamego Smoke Signal is the dominant print media in the market. Each week it is mailed to households reaching about 22,000 readers in and just outside of Pottawatomie County.

Together, these three publications saturate the corridor extending from Junction City, through Fort Riley and into Wamego.
