4.0. Description of the appliance (in brief)
The CN ...6 is a combined refrigerator-freezer with a NoFrost freezer compartment. It has onecompressor. The refrigerator and freezer evaporators are activated via a bistable solenoid valve. The twoevaporators are switched in series (see sketch 4.1.).The refrigerator compartment can therefore only be operated in combination with the freezercompartment. However, it is possible to operate the freezer compartment on its own.
Refrigerator compartment:The refrigerator compartment is equipped with a foamed-in evaporator, an air sensor and an evaporator
sensor. Both sensors can be replaced separately.
The air sensor detects the temperature for the temperature display and switches off the refrigerationfunction.
The evaporator sensor registers the temperature for defrosting the refrigerator evaporator and switchesthe refrigeration function on.
Freezer compartment:The freezer compartment is equipped with a NoFrost rear wall evaporator module, a fan module, an airsensor and an evaporator sensor. Both sensors can be replaced separately.
The air sensor detects the temperature for the temperature display and switches the refrigeration function
on and off.
The evaporator sensor activates the freezer fan and the evaporator module defrost function.
There is a special defrost drain valve for draining off the defrost water.

5.0. Refrigerator compartment – controls and functional parts
Electronics: 6-series Magnetek electronics, operating panel board and power board. The microcontroller is on the power board.
Display range: 2°C to 50°C
Setting range (referencesetting):
+2°C to +11°C
Door alarm: Sounds when refrigerator door has been left open for 60 seconds
Interior light: Inside right of refrigerator compartment
Refrigerator evaporatorsensor:
Switches the compressor on and sets the solenoid valve to position A(refrigerator and freezer compartments are activated).
Refrigerator air sensor: • Sets the solenoid valve to position B (only the freezer compartment is
activated).• Switches the compressor off according to the values read at the freezer air
sensor (logical AND operation).
• Detects the temperature to be displayed on the refrigerator display
SuperCooling: Cools appliance down to +2°C for 6 hours
Defrosting: Takes place automatically when the compressor is idle
Refrigerator fan: At the top in the middle of the refrigerator rear wall. Can be switched on and offusing the button on the operating panel.
• The fan runs when the compressor is running and the solenoid valve is set
to position A (refrigerator and freezer compartments are activated).
• Switches off when door open (reed switch).
6.0. Freezer compartment – controls and functional parts
Electronics: 6-series Magnetek electronics, operating panel board and power board. The microcontroller is on the power board.
Display range: 0°C to -40°C
Setting range (referencesetting):
-16°C to -26°C
Temperature alarm: Alarm temperature is set at -8°C, regardless of reference setting. Thealarm is triggered if temperatures of -8°C or warmer have been displayedfor 20 minutes.
The alarm function is suppressed for 90 minutes after the defrost heaterhas been switched on.
When the appliance is switched on for the first time, the visual warning lightcomes on and the audible warning signal is switched off.
Door alarm: Sounds when freezer door has been left open for 60 seconds

Fan: The fan runs when the following conditions are met:- Compressor on- Freezer door closed- Evaporator sensor activation temperature reached.
Evaporator sensor activation temperature:
a} On starting up: -25°Cb} In normal operation: 2K below freezer air sensor
Freezer air sensor: Switches the compressor on according to the values read at therefrigerator evaporator sensor.Switches the compressor off according to the values read at therefrigerator air sensor.Detects the temperature to be displayed on the freezer display.
Freezer evaporatorsensor:
Ends the defrost phase and switches the freezer fan on.
Evaporator heater: - Heats both the evaporator and the defrost drain gulley
- Safety temperature limiter switched in series with the heater
- Activated via the electronic control system
Defrosting: The defrost phase is activated:
- When starting up after 6 hours of accumulated compressor running time. - After an accumulated compressor running time of 12 to a maximum of60 hours, according to how often and how long the door is opened.
When the defrost phase is started, the compressor and the fan areswitched off and the defrost heater is switched on.
The defrost heater remains on until:- The evaporator has reached +10°C or- 50 minutes have elapsed.
The compressor is switched on after a delay of 10 minutes at the end ofthe heating phase. When activating the SuperFrost function during the defrost phase, thedefrost phase will not be interrupted.
Defrost drain valve: Foamed-in defrost drain valve; can be dismantled for cleaning.Important: valve must be replaced in exactly the right way (see section 9.1., “Installation instructions”).
SuperFrost: Cools the freezer compartment down to -32°C (quantity-controlled, 30 to 65hours)
7.0. Cooling circuit
7.1. Refrigerator cooling circuit

7.2. Freezer cooling circuit
Evaporator: Ribbed evaporator fitted on the rear wall of the interior container in thefreezer compartment. The defrost heater is fitted directly on theevaporator.
Injection point: Solenoid valve set to position B (freezing):Top left of ribbed evaporator
Solenoid valve set to position A (cooling + freezing):Refrigerant is injected at the top left of the refrigerator evaporator andthen supplied to the freezer evaporator
Solenoid valve: 2 capillary tubes (long winding for refrigerator, short winding forfreezer)
Compressor: 1 joint standard compressor for refrigerator and freezer compartments
Frame heater: Foamed-in liquid heater for freezer door only
8.0. Special features
8.1. Electrical actuation of solenoid valve
The CN(es) ...6 appliances are equipped with bistable solenoid valves which maintain their switchingstate after actuation. They are therefore actuated with a short pulse. Switching state A or B also dependson the polarity of the actuation voltage (see sketch).
Negative half-wave switches solenoid valve to B Positive half-wave switches solenoid valve to A
Result:It is not possible to check actuation with a voltmeter as the actuation pulses are so small. To checkactuation of the solenoid valve, we recommend running the self-diagnosis routine. This makes theswitching process of the solenoid valve clearly audible.
8.2. Switch rules
8.2.1 Compressor switch rules
Freezer air sensor activation temperatureCompressor ON: or
Refrigerator evaporator sensor activation temperature
NB: The reactivation delay of the electronic control system (8 minutes) must have elapsed.
Freezer air sensor deactivation temperatureCompressor OFF: and
Refrigerator air sensor deactivation temperature
NB: As soon as the deactivation temperature is reached, a run-on time of 120 seconds is started.

8.2.2 Freezer fan switch rules
When the compressor is runningFan ON: and
the door is closed
NB: When starting up, the fan is switched on after a certain period of time.
When the compressor is offFan OFF: or
Special case: The refrigerator air sensor is too warm and thefreezer air sensor is at least 2K below its deactivation temperature. So there is more cooling capacity available for the refrigerator.
NB: The freezer reed switch switches the freezer fan off if the door is opened.
8.2.3 Solenoid valves switch rules
- When the refrigerator air sensor deactivation temperature is reached, the solenoid valve is switched toB.
The freezer compartment is activated.
- When the refrigerator evaporator sensor activation temperature is reached, the solenoid valve isswitched to A.
The refrigerator and freezer compartments are activated.
