TheprocessofinstallingDolbyMediaMeter2consistsoftworequiredsteps:
1. InstallingtheDolbyMediaMeter2software

ToinstallDolbyMediaMeter2onaMac:
1. InserttheCDintotheopticaldrive.TheCDopensautomatically.
2. Readtheintroduction,thenclickContinue.
3. Readthelicenseagreement.Youmaychoosetoprintandsaveitforyourrecords.ClickContinuetoproceed.
4. ClickAgreetoacceptthelicenseagreementandproceedwithinstallation.5. Selectadestinationdrive.ClickContinue.
Whenthesystemhascompletedtheinstallation,itautomaticallyopensyourWebbrowsertowww.dolbysupport.com.Thesiteallowsyoutoopenanaccount,ifyouhavenotalreadydoneso,andtoregisteryourproduct.Registeringyourproductallowsyoutoreceivetechnicalsupportandnoticeoffutureupgrades.
6. Whenyouareready,closethetechnicalsupportwindowandclickCloseontheinstallertocompletetheinstallation.

3.1 Measuring Equivalent Loudness
DifferencesinaudiolevelsbetweenprogramsandchannelsorbetweenprogramsandcommercialsareamajorannoyancetoTVviewers.Whileobvioustotheviewer,theseloudnessdifferenceshaveprovendifficulttomeasurewithconventionalmethodsandequipment.
Foryears,theaudioindustryhasquantifiedthelevelofitsprogrammingusingpeakprogrammeters(PPM)andvolumeunit(VU)meters.Itisimportanttonotethatbothweredeveloped
and
are
used
to
read
signal
voltages,
and
therefore
make
no
attempt
to
measure
subjectiveloudness.Thus,severaldifferentvoices,adjustedinlevelsothattheyalldeflectmeterstothesamemark,maysoundsomewhatdifferentinleveltothelistenerathome.Thisproblemisoftencompoundedbytherapidresponseofthemeter,whichrequiresalloperatorstoperformtheirownindividualvisualintegrationoraveragingofthemetermovementitself.
DolbyMediaMeter2featuresDialogueIntelligencetechnology,adoptedfromtheawardwinningDolbyDP600ProgramOptimizer,whichautomaticallydetectsandthenmeasuresloudnessonlyduringthepresenceofspeechinanaudiotrack.EnablingDialogueIntelligenceallowstheoperatortosimplyquantifyallthesectionsoftheprogramthatonlycontaineddialogueandusetheendingmeasurementvalueforanalysisand/or
normalizationpurposes.
This
value
is
also
commonly
used
to
set
the
dialogue
normalizationparameterwithinDolbybitstreams.

Many
skilled
audio
operators
prefer
to
use
the
ShortTermmodemeasurement,astheyfindtheinformationonneartermdynamicstobeveryusefulwhenmixingorproducingaprogram,andtheyarecapableofmanagingoverallprogramloudnessbyreadingtheshorttermmeasure.
ShortTermmodeisalsoveryusefulformeasuringandloggingthedynamicloudnesshistoryofagivenprogramduringtheQCorpostproductionprocess,orinaparticulartelevisionserviceorchannelinacableheadendfacility.

ThestandaloneDolbyMediaMeter2applicationmeasuressourceandencodedfiles.Thesoftwareanalyzestheinput,thendisplaysthemeasuredresultsforuseindeterminingtheproperdi al nor mmetadatavaluetouseduringencoding.ThisisusefulforDVDandBlurayDiscpostproduction,broadcastfacilities,videoondemand(VOD),moviedownloadservices,andvideogames.

Unlessarangeisspecifiedhere,DolbyMediaMeter2measurestheentirefile.Iftimecodeisembeddedinthefiles,themeterwilldefaulttotimecode;iftimecodeisnotpresent,thethemeterwilldefaulttorealtime.Highlighteitherorboththebeginningandendfields,andtypenewvaluestochangethem.DolbyMediaMeter2supportsallcommonvideoframerates,aswellasframes,seconds,andsamples,inadditionto
real
time
measurement.

WhenaDolbyEfilecontainingmorethanoneprogramisselected,DolbyMediaMeter2allowsyoutochoosewhichprogramDolbyMediaMeter2shouldmeasure.TheselectorlistsonlytheprogramsthatexistintheselectedDolbyEstream.
Inbothcases,measurementdoesnotproceeduntilyouhaveindicatedachoice.

AsaProToolsRTASorVSTplugin,DolbyMediaMeter2measuresloudnessinrealtime,lettingyoutracklevelsduringthemixingprocesstoaidinmeetingnetworkdeliveryrequirements.DolbyMediaMeter2cansimultaneouslydisplayuptosevenoftheninepossiblemeasurementsdescribedinSection 4.6.Chooseameasurementtodisplaybyrightclickinginameasurementboxandchoosingfromthecontextmenu.Figure 36showsapluginexample.
