Why W2RF Created?
The developing countries as a whole is experiencing rapid
urbanization, increasing population, industrialization and changing
lifestyle and consumption patterns are resulting in the generation of
increasing amounts new types of wastes.
Waste management is mainly focused with end-of-pipe solution
which is based on collection, transportation and Disposal.

• The W2RF is a charity registered in the United Kingdom that was established with
support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, ESCAP and Waste Concern has a
registered office in London, UK.
• The W2RF is managed by a Board of Trustees, with a back office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
• The W2RF aims to finance solid waste management projects linked with Green House
Gas (GHG) emissions reduction and ultimately to generate a revolving fund for further
investment.

• The W2R Fund provides technology, financial capital and technical and managerial expertise to local governments and waste entrepreneurs to help them develop and implement solutions on waste management that are based on the concept of “waste is a resource”.

• The W2RF invests in pro-poor and sustainable solid waste management
projects that reduce greenhouse gases in developing countries, especially
least developed countries.
How W2RF Works?
Financing Model of W2RF
The primary aim of W2RF is to accumulate a fund through grants and to
invest the same in the form of
Equity
Debt investment or
Soft loan or combination of all against receivables (CERs/VERs/
compost etc.)
It is expected that the investments to be made by W2RF can generate a
profit between 10-25% which may vary from case to case
