the possibilities
While Neoprene
latex adhesives have
long been used in
specialized applica-
tions, today’s
increasing environ-
mental awareness and concerns for flamma-
bility and occupational health have heightened
the market’s need for alternative materials.
DuPont Dow has increased its focus on
developing water-based adhesive polymers
that perform as well as, if not better than,
solvent-based adhesives.
Neoprene latexes are aqueous colloidal
dispersions of Neoprene, or copolymers of
chloroprene and other monomers. Water-
based adhesives offer a unique combination
of inherent characteristics, including good
contactability; excellent film formation; flexi-
bility; polarity; and high, uncured cohesive
strength. They provide elastomeric properties
over a wide temperature range and actively
resist flame, temperature, weather, ozone,
heat, water, and many oils and chemicals.
Neoprene water-based adhesives are com-
plemented by a range of tackifiers and pro-
moters for good bonding to many substrates.
ApplicationsNeoprene latexes are designed with different polymeric and colloidal characteristics to serve a variety of formulated adhesive applications:
Adhesives
• Laminating
• Contact Bond
• Footwear
• Foam-to-Foam
• Pressure-Sensitive, Heat- or Solvent-Activated
• Mastics
Binders
• Saturants and Wet-End Additives (paper, nonwovens, and bonded batts)
• Asphalt Modification
• Aggregates such as Resilient Surfacings
Coatings
• Industrial
• Decorative

Equally important, they are supported with
some of the best resources in the industry,
including global technical support specialists
with a keen understanding of the adhesives
industry, plus the direct experience to help
you solve problems.
Together, this product family delivers solu-
tions to your most complex adhesive chal-
lenges. Additionally, each individual
product lends its own unique strength:
• Neoprene is one of the most versatile
materials ever developed as a base for
elastomeric adhesives.
• AquaStik™ is a water-based adhesive for solvent-
free foam fabricating and wood laminating.
• Hypalon® CP achieves near-instant bond
speeds and serves as a primer for better
adhesion.
• Viton® fluoroelastomer enhances resistance
to high temperatures and aggressive fluids.
Addressing evolving market needs
As the market continues to evolve, DuPont
Performance will respond with improved
polymers that anticipate and meet your
changing needs. This commitment extends
to developing innovative alternatives to
traditional polymers, such as water-based
adhesives, that meet increasingly stringent
environmental regulations.

Neoprene polychloroprene has been
universally accepted as one of the most
versatile materials ever developed as a base
for elastomeric adhesives. It is compatible
with a variety of porous and nonporous
substrates, creating bonds that resist
degradation by oils, chemicals, water, heat,
sunlight, and ozone.
Elastomeric adhesives offer more than
a flexible glue line. Their ability to yield slightly
under peel- or shear-stress conditions distrib-
utes the force over a larger area. The elas-
tomeric nature of the bond also allows
it to resist rupture or delamination due to
impact. Neoprene delivers a combination of
polarity and crystallinity that further improves
its strength and versatility in bonding a wide
range of substrates.ApplicationsNeoprene is used in a variety of industrial and consumer applications, including:
• High-Pressure Lamination
• Footwear (sole attaching and upper assembly)
• Coated Fabrics
• Seaming (inflatables, tarpaulins)
• Automotive (headliners, trim attachment, and vinyl roofs)
• Furniture
• Floor /Ceramic Tiles
• Consumer Contact Adhesive
Chlorinated and chlorosulfonated
polymers have a long history in the coatings
and adhesive industries. They have been
used to impart flexibility and to promote
adhesion in a variety of formulations. The
DuPont Dow family of solution-chlorinated
and chlorosulfonated polyolefins can be used
in a wide variety of adhesives and adhesion-
promoting roles.
Hypalon CP family polymers are high-value,
specialty chlorinated polyolefins that are useful
as adhesion promoters or binder modifiers
for coatings, adhesives, and inks. Some
nonplastic surfaces, including alu-
minum and galvanized steel,
can be made more receptive
to coatings and inks with
these materials.
ApplicationsHypalon excels in a diversity of applications and industries:
• Footwear
• Automotive Parts (TPO)
• Engineering Plastics
• Toys
• Molded Container Applications
• Epoxy Flexibilizer
• Waterborne Coatings
• Modifiers
• 100% Reactive Adhesive Systems
This is a growing product family,
dedicated to meeting today’s and tomorrow’s
demanding adhesive-formulation needs.
Waterborne and 100% solids-reactive
systems are under development.

Viton®
fluoroelastomers
Solvent-based coatings of Viton fluoroelas-
tomers are the best choice to seal, adhere, and
encapsulate materials where other elastomers
may degrade or fail due to high heat or
aggressive chemicals. A flexible coating made
from Viton can extend the service life of coat-
ed substrates by protecting them from harm-
ful environments. Coatings of Viton have been
used successfully on most materials, including
metal and other elastomers. In adhesive appli-
cations, Viton forms a strong bond that can
flex without failure after repeated temperature
cycling and vibration.
For over 40 years, Viton has demonstrated
exceptional performance in the most
demanding situations. If you have a hard-to-
solve adhesive, coating, or caulking problem
requiring a product that can withstand high
heat or aggressive chemicals, Viton may be
your answer.
ApplicationsViton is used in a variety of highly demanding applications, including:
• Aerospace Adhesives
• Automotive Seals and Coatings
• Environmental Protection with Caulks and Coatings
• Caulk
