Editing Update 1

This week, I began to edit my music video as I have enough footage to start the editing, although I have not finished the filming yet. I imported all the footage that I have onto the software that I am using, which is Movie Studio Platinum; and I have put the other scenes in order of how I want them to be shown. I have done two days of editing this week and on the second day, I imported the song into the video so that I can look at the visuals and link them to the lyrics.

Day 1:

I put the scenes in order after I imported them. I consulted my storyboard to what order the shots should be in and also added additional scenes when I found inspiration at the locations.

I looked at trying to make a time-lapse of people walking by. Above is a screenshot of the scene before I edited the video.

This is the time-lapse after making the video shorter by using the keys on the keyboard, which is control and dragging the picture with the mouse so that zigzag lines appear on the screen and making the video shorter on the screen. This is the correct speed that I want the people to walk at when the video is playing, so I will render this and import it into my music video.

I then started on the video that I will put on a disc to be shown on the television screen. This is a video of a person calling the main character into the television screen. I imported all the videos I wanted into the software and added a video effect called ‘TV Simulator’ (Effect that is selected in blue at the top) onto some of my footage.

Page 3: Editing Update 1

After adding the effect onto that particular scene, a message box appears stating the features of that effect such as how much static there should be and the vertical and horizontal sync of the static and how you can change these effects to make the action that you want.

This is what happens when you change those features on the ‘TV Simulator’ to make the scene look like a TV style film. When the video is playing, it would look like the TV has gone static.

For the rest of the video, I edited the scenes as I recorded the video as one long take so I had to split the video into sections (such as the image above) so that it is easier to edit and put the scene together.

For the end of the video when it goes back to the TV screen, I wanted a long take of TV static so I used a wood scene with no people and used the same features as the previous scenes of the ‘TV Simulator’ so that the final scene is of the screen going static and the camera zooms in on the TV.

This is the finished video to be put on the disc without the sound of the knocking in place.

Photoshop

I wanted to make a scene where a peace symbol and the word ‘Peace’ written underneath magically appear. This is the image I want to manipulate but I can only change this on Photoshop as Movie Studio Platinum doesn’t have the features available to change this.

Page 6: Editing Update 1

I used an image from the internet for the peace symbol and highlighted the symbol to be copied so that I can place it onto the tree trunk.

I resized the image as when I pasted the image onto the trunk, it was really small and I wanted the image bigger so that the audience can see it.

Page 7: Editing Update 1

I duplicated the layer so that when I moved the copied layer above the symbol in the right hand box, the symbol will disappear. I highlighted the symbol so that it can be seen through the trunk.

I clicked on Curves in the adjustments section so that the symbol can appear darker on the screen.

I then added effects to the symbol to make it look realistic as if it has been carved into the wood. I used emboss to add depth to the image and used inner and outer glow to make the outlines of the image sharper.

This is the image after adding more effects on the symbol, which is bringing out more of the symbol, making it look more realistic compared to my test shot that was not authentic and was too dark.

This is the final image of what the symbol would look like.

I used the same effects to create the writing below, however as the writing is smaller than the image I had to customise the scale of writing in comparison to the symbol.

Editing Day 2

On the second day, I imported the photoshopped work that I did the day before into the video.

I started on the second time-lapse that I will put at the end of my music video of a lake where I want the clouds to go by quickly. I started by removing the sound from the video by right clicking the sound on the video and selecting ‘Group’ and ‘Remove From’. This separates the two elements so that when you right click on the sound and select ‘Delete’, the sound would disappear.

The video when the sound is removed.

When I shortened the video, like in the people walking time-lapse, it was still going too slowly as you can only shorten the shot to a certain point, so I rendered the video for an internet video and imported the video into another window and shortened it again. I did this three times until I got the video short enough and with better quality to what I was expecting.

In addition to doing the time-lapse, I added the song of my music video, which is ‘Imagine’ by Emeli Sandé, so that I can now match the visuals to the lyrics of the song.

Next week, I plan to:

Organise the shots I have already got Gather more filming
