AIM: To strengthen the basic skill in course planning and evaluations in Nursing
Education
OBJECTIVES:
The group will be able to
1. Demonstrate skill in preparing a course plan, unit plan for various short term courses .
2. Demonstrate skill preparing Master Rotation plan , Clinical Rotation Plan , shift duty
plan for students and Planning for a clinical posting .
3. Experience OSCE/OSPE, critique the check list and set up new stations.
4. Learn about the recent advance in higher education applicable to nursing education.
( Flipped class room , Blended learning , Using computers for Evaluation and
documentation )
5. Demonstrate skill in preparing a blue print and construct question papers based on it.
6. Critique and construct various type of questions based on blooms taxonomy [ MCQ,
SAQ, LAQ].
7. Analyse the MCQ using item analysis.
8. Masters students also learn how to organize a workshop.

INTRODUCTION:
As a part of education curriculum, the college had an organised a workshop on
“EDUCATIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT FOR NEXT GENERATION
TEACHERS”.
The workshop was organized for 6 days from19th November 2018 to 24th November
2018.Three workshops of two days each were planned.

Day: Monday
Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Venue: Conference Hall, BV(DU)CON, Pune
The day was started with registration by registration committee at 8:00am – 9:00am.
Inauguration and lamp lighting ceremony was started by honourable chief guest Dr. V. V
Dhapte, Principal Dr. Khurshid Jamadar and Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar.

The first session was on “COURSE PLAN”by Prof. Shanta De, in which she delivered
lecture on :
What is course planning.
Level of the course planning.
Principles of the course planning.
Contents of the course planning.
Role of the teacher in the course planning.
LECTURE TAKEN BY PROF. SHANTA DE
She explained about the levels, principles, objectives, structure, elements, process of
the course planning and how to write the course schedule and refine the course design.
After the completion of the theory session the activity session was started. For the
group activities there were 4 groups of 5-6 students and groupnamed by A, B, C and D. Each
group had prepared a course plan of different books these are:
A- Geriatric nursing
B- Transcultural Nursing
C- Emergency and trauma care nursing
D- Infection control nursing
After the preparation of the course plan each group presented the content
The second session was on “Unit Planning” by Prof. Shanta De. In that she explains
about the unit planning and division of hours according to the content of each unit.
Then she continues the session with the guidelines and steps to prepare the unit
plan.The day was ended with group activity and by felicitating to Prof. Shanta De by Prof.
Pravina Mahadalkar.

After that instructions were given for the next day and instructed us to preparation of
Rotation Plan by Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar.

Day: Tuesday

The day was started by Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar and she gave a brief summarisation of
previous day’s sessions.. Activity started on “Preparation of master rotation” which is
followed by the clinical plan based on the master plan.

In afternoon session the group started preparing internal rotation plan for a posting and shift
duty plans under the guidance and supervision of Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar and Prof. Shanta
De and discussed about the master rotation plan, clinical plan and shift duty plan.

Day: Wednesday
Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm

The day was started by summarisation of previous day’s session and welcomed Mrs. Sujita
and Dr. JyotsnaDeshpande.
The first session was on “Introduction to OSCE/OSPE” by Mrs. Sujita in which she delivers
an effective lecture. She explains the term OSCE/OSPE, the types, competencies, the model
of competence, components and what are the steps to be followed prior and after OSCE.
She explained well on what to follow during performing a procedure and we should know the
checklist to followed.
It was a wonderful session and the session was ended by felicitating Mrs. Sujita and Dr.
Jyotsna Deshpande with certificate by Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar.
There was a group activity on experiencing OSCE/OSPE organised by Dr. Jyotsna
Deshpande and Mrs. Sujita Devi. Various Types of OSCE OSPE Station were planned by
resource person and the students experienced the practical examination as examiner as well
as student in all the stations . One group was taken to nursing arts lab and different
procedures ( like infant feeding , blood glucose checking etc)were given in which each one
has to be evaluated by the checklist according to the procedure. Then the other group was
conference hall only where there were different 11 stations ( like identification of the item
displayed, writing what is asked about the item , calculation etc)and every student has been
allotted to each station and have to answer to the questions of each station within 5 minutes
and have to rotate the 11 stations and later the different groups were exchanged for the
stations.
It was an interesting interactive session in which students were placed to various situations
and were trained how this OSCE/OSPE has to applied for the current education trends.
In afternoon session, there was again a group activity on experiencing, critiquing constructing
OSCE/OSPE by Dr. Jyotsna Deshpande and Dr. N. Sujita Devi.
The day ended with evaluating on performance during the group activity and giving
suggestions how to improve in the future. The group learnt that this method can be used for
formative evaluation

Day: Thursday (08:00 Am- 05:00pm)
Venue- Conference Hall BV(DU), Pune.
The day was started by summarisation of previous day’s session . The first session was on
“Blended Learning” by Mr.Satyawan Hembade in which he deliverd an effective lecture.
He explained the term blended learning. He also explained the models of blended learning
and how to use it. He also discussed about the advantage and disadvantage of blended
learning and also discussed about Pedagogical Change in learning. He also explained about
Blended Learning Competencies in learning.
LECTURE TAKEN BY MR. MR. SATYAWAN HEMBADE
The second session was on “Flipped Classroom” by Mr. Ajit More. The lecture was very
fruitful He explained the term Flipped Classroom. He also describes about bloom’s
taxonomy, learning theories. We also discussed how the new learning methods are good for
enhancing learning and how can we use the traditional learning method with new teaching
advancement.

Both sessions were very wonderful and knowledgeable. The session ended with felicitation of
Mr. Ajit More and Mr. Satyawan Hembade with certificate by Prof. (Mrs.) Pravina
Mahadalkar.
The third session was taken by Mr. Shyam Thorat on “Use of Computer in education and
advancement of technology in higher education”. The group learned about how to use
management information software, how to use them.

Demonstration was given about the various type of application which can be also used for
management information system which can be used in various institution for their employee
management and in educational institution for managing the student and teacher’s
documentation. The session was very interesting and knowledgeable The session was ended
by felicitating Mr. Shayam Thorat with certificate by Prof. (Mrs.) Pravina Mahadalkar
The fourth session was continued by Dr. Lily Podder on “innovation in nursing “and
“document management system”. In document management system she explained the term
document, storage of document and the modern technological advancement for better and
easy documentation. She also explained about how to use them and how to secure them on
internet.
After this session the group learned about “the teaching learning apps”. This session was very
interesting and wonderful. Students enjoyed the learning through gaming.Demonstration of
Kahoot was done using Google .The session was enjoyable and knowledgeable. The session
was ended by felicitating Dr. Lily Podder with certificate by Prof. (Mrs.) Pravina
Mahadalkar.

Day: Friday (09:00 am- 05:00pm)
VENUE- Conference Hall, BV(DU)CON, Pune.
The day was started by summarisation of last four day’s session. Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar
welcomed the Dr. Amol S. Chavan, Dr. Veena Shakhardande andnew delegates from various
institution. The brief history of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), College of
Nursing, Pune was given by Prof Pravina Mahadalkar. Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar also gave
review about the workshop to newly joined delegates.
The first session was started by Dr. Amol S. Chavan on “Evaluation with a written exam”.
In that he explained the term blue-print and test. He also discussed about the planning of test,
measurement instruments for evaluation, how to set a good test, question analysis. He also
discussed in detail about blue print, how to make it , how to arrange the items according to
blooms taxonomy.

After this session the practical session was started. In practical session the task of blue-prints
preparation was given to students. Students were divided in to groups. The prepared blue
prints were also presented by groups.
The session was very wonderful and knowledgeable to us. The session was ended by

Afternoon session was started by Dr. Veena Shakhardande on “Preparing Question
Paper”.She explained about how to prepare MCQ, SAQ and LAQ. she also explained about
the types of questions, how to prepare them, principles of making question paper, how to
arrange questions in question paper according to blooms taxonomy.

Session was continued with group activities. The task of question paper preparation was
assigned to different group of students. Prepared question paper was presented by groups.
After the presentation, critique was also done by groups for better evaluation.
The session was very wonderful and knowledgeable to us. The session was ended by
felicitating Dr. Veena Shakhardande with certificate by Prof. (Mrs.) Pravina Mahadalkar.
PRESENTATION DONE BY GROUPS

Day: Thursday (09:00 am- 01:00pm)
Venue- Conference Hall, BV(DU)CON, Pune.
The day was started by summarisation of previous day’s session and welcomed the Mrs.
Archala Khemnar by Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar.
The first session was carried out by Prof. (Mrs.)Pravina Mahadalkar on “Item Analysis of
MCQ”. In this session she discussed about the difficulty index, discrimination index and
distracter effectiveness. She also explained that benefits of item analysis in teaching learning
activities.
After this session student were divided in to ten (10) groups for group activity. Each group
were given a corrected set of MCQ answer sheets .The task of item analysis was assigned to
groups.Students calculated the the difficulty index, discrimination index and distracter
effectivenessof the given set .Interpretation of the result was done based on the given formula
This session was coordinated by Mrs. Archala Khemnar and Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar.
This session was very interesting and gave opportunity for the participants to do the item
analysis (calculate the difficulty index and discrimination index and evaluation of MCQ.)
Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar and Mrs. Archala Khemnar were felicitated by certificate by Dr
Sachin Kadam.
VALEDICTORY
For valedictory session Dr. Sachin Kadam was the Guest of Honour . He appreciated the
efforts taken by the Nursing college for arranging such activities and congratulated the group
for their active participation .He expressed his view about the new evaluation techniques and
technological advancement in education. Dr. Sachin Kadam was felicitated by Prof. Pravina
Mahadalkar.

MSc Students from Sadhu Vaswani College of Nursing and Bharati Vidyapeeth college of
Nursing Navi Mumbai participated in the last two days of the workshop , Mrs. Chitra Polekar
and Ms Tocane Vaishali gave participants feedback .Vote of thanks was given by Mrs.
Kalyani Yeljale,. Certificates awarded by Dr. Sachin Kadam and Prof. Pravina Mahadalkar to
delegates.
Conclusion
The workshop is always a good way for learning and updating the knowledge and skill.
The students benefitted in such a way that some of their Nursing education assignments were
completed during the process.
