The Canon EF-S35mm f/2.8 MACRO IS STM is a macro lens for use with EF-S lens compatible EOS cameras*. It is equipped with an Image Stabilizer capable of shooting portraits, scenery, and other normal shots as well as close-up (macro) shots with a magnification ratio of 1:1.

●● Contactsthatarescratched,soiled,orhavefingerprintsonthemmayresultinfaultyconnectionsorcorrosion,whichmayleadtomalfunctions.Ifthecontactsgetsoiled,cleanthemwithasoftcloth.

●● FocusingbyrotatingthefocusingringisnotpossiblewhenthecameraisOFF.
WhenAFoperationissetto[ONESHOT],manualfocusispossibleafterautofocusinghasbeencompletedbycontinuingtopresstheshutterbuttonhalfway(Full-timemanualfocus).Therearetimeswhencamerasettingchangesarerequired.

YoucanusetheImageStabilizerinAForMFmode.Also,theImageStabilizerprovidesimagestabilizationdependingonshootingconditions(suchasshootingstillsubjects,followingshots,andclose-ups(macro)).
1 Set the STABILIZER switch to ON.●● Ifyouarenotgoingtousetheimagestabilizerfunction,settheswitchtoOFF.
2When you press the shutter button halfway, the Image Stabilizer will start operating. ●● Makesuretheimageintheviewfinderisstable,thenpresstheshutterbuttontherestofthewaydowntotakethepicture.

●● Evenwithamonopod,theImageStabilizerwillbeaseffectiveasduringhand-heldshooting.However,dependingontheshootingconditions,therearecasesinwhichtheImageStabilizereffectmaybelesseffective.
●● TheimagestabilizerfunctionalsooperateswhenthelensisusedwithanextensiontubeEF12IIorEF25II.

Itisnecessarytobecarefulofthefollowingduringclose-up(macro)shooting.• Thereisatendencyforcamerashaketoaffectclose-up(macro)shotsmorethannormalshots,andtheeffectsoftheimagestabilizingfunctionarereduced.
• Depthoffieldbecomesextremelyshallowwhentakingclose-up(macros)shots,andthefocusmayblurifthecameraismovedforwardandbackward.
Theminimumfocusingdistanceofthislens(minimumdistancebetweenthesubjectandtheimagesensoratwhichthelenscanfocus)is0.13m/0.43ft.Theworkingdistanceofthislens(minimumdistancefromthefrontofthelenstothesubject)is30mm/1.18inch.

Setting the ExposureWhentakingphotographsusingTTLmetering,noexposurecompensationisnecessarytometerthelightcomingthroughthelens.WithTTLmetering,AE(autoexposure)ispossibleatallfocusingdistances.Justsetthedesiredpicture-takingmode,thenchecktheshutterspeedandaperturebeforetakingthepicture.
Magnification and Effective f-numberTheaperturedisplayedbythecameraassumesthatthefocusissettoinfinity.Theactualaperture(effectivef-number)becomesdarker(effectivef-numberincreases)atcloserfocusingdistances(magnificationincreases).Thisdoesnotcauseexposureproblemsfornormalpicture-taking.However,forclose-upphotography,youcannotignorethechangeintheeffectivef-number.
●● Conditionsprevalentwiththesubjectareveryimportantwhendecidingonthecorrectlevelofexposureforclose-up(macro)shots.Itisthereforerecommendedthatexposurelevelsareamendedasmuchaspossibleduringshooting,orthattheimageofthesubjectischeckedonthecamera’sLCDmonitor.
●● Usingeithertheaperture-priorityAE(Av)modeormanualexposure(M)modeisrecommendedforclose-up(macro)photography,asthesemakeiteasiertoadjustthedepthoffieldandexposure.
Whenyouuseahandheldexposuremetertosettheexposure,youmusttakeintoaccounttheexposurefactorshowninthefollowingtable.
