About the Position
The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Deputy Sheriff Trainee. The Deputy Sheriff Trainee is a recruiting and training level classification established to qualify candidates for duties as a Deputy Sheriff in the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department. Incumbents must undergo a formal and comprehensive training program in a California P.O.S.T. certified academy. This position reports directly to the designated California P.O.S.T. certified academy with supervision provided by a Sheriff’s Sergeant (Operations). Positions in this class are distinguished from Deputy Sheriff in that the former class is a non-sworn class, which has no peace officer powers. Upon satisfactory completion of the training and graduation from the academy, the trainee will be promoted to the level of Deputy Sheriff. Failure to successfully complete training as prescribed and therein graduation from the academy will result in termination. Incumbents. May be required to perform other non-sworn peace officer duties as directed.

About the Sheriff’s Department
The Yuba County Sheriff's Office is comprised of multiple functions within the Operations Division including Valley and Foothill Patrol, Investigations, Narcotics Task Force, Gang Enforcement, Marijuana Eradication Team, Coroner, Crime Prevention, Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT, Canine Program, Field Training Officer, Aero Squadron, and Marine Enforcement. The department is committed to working in partnership with the community to identify and resolve public safety and quality of live issues, consistent with it’s core values. The Sheriff's Office provides a full range of services to an estimated population of about 70,000. The Sheriff’s Department is located in the City of Marysville with a substation in Brownsville.
Qualifications
Trainee Minimum: Graduation from high school and currently enrolled in a California P.O.S.T. Basic or Modular Academy.
Work Environment: Primarily consist of a classroom environment including physical training and related arrest techniques both indoors and outdoors. Emergency vehicle operation and firearms training at firing range.
Special Requirements: Must be willing to work off-hours, weekends, holiday shifts and may be called-out in emergency situations. Minimally qualified applicants are required to submit a background packet (Personal History Statement) upon request to the Sheriff’s Department for pre-review. Must meet the State of California requirements for peace officer status (830.1 CA Penal Code) including, passing a detailed background investigation with a fingerprint check, no felony convictions, passing a medical exam and psychological exam. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen at time of appointment and at least 18 years of age. (pursuant to Government Code Section 1031 & Vehicle Section 2267) Possess DMV printout prior to hire. Will be required to perform disaster service activities
