BACKGROUND
Currently Indonesia is facing an energy crisis which one of them is electricity. As cited from Kompas Daily on February 14th, 2015, electricity problem not only related with the necessity of the power plant infrastructure development, but also raise a fundamental and technical problems that requires to be solved. Let alone knowing the fact that the government has an enormous target, which is developing a 35.000 megawatt power plant in the next five years.
Completed build power plants are often malfunction, because ironically there are no primarysource to power up the plants, such as gas. Areas that are well-known as the electricity producersuch as Natuna, Riau, Sumatera and Kalimantan island, are currently affected by the shortage of theprimary source. Those affected areas are having a major electricity crisis
On a daily basis, youngster often unconsciously also contribute to this energy crisis. From small behavior such as omit to turn-off unused lamp, fail to discharged mobile charger from its switch, and extravagant utilization of personal vehicles.
CHALLENGE
Regarding the problem that risen, KOMPAS as media initiated to invite the youngster (speciallyhigh-school student) that we believe are agent of change to be more aware of energy-savingbehavior in order to help reduce energy crisis.
HOWInvolved in various activity that represent energy-saving spirit where they can start participatingfrom their surrounding, which is school.

SCHOOL COMPETITIONKompas open “Call for Papers” proposal submission throughout Jakarta high-schools to submit their ideas about energy-saving activity (theme: “Aku dan Energi” - Me and Energy) that feasible to be run in their school.
Ten schools were chosen to present their proposal in front of the judges from Kompas. Afterward, 5 schools with the best-feasible ideas were given workshop about the importance of energy-saving and journalistic writing. Then they were given financial support to implemented the idea.
After a period of three months from September – November, the five schools were evaluated from the infrastructures preparation, school promotion campaign, and impact.
PHOTO COMPETITIONMake use of social media platform, Instagram which pictured energy-saving activities in a hashtag called #KitadanEnergi (Energy & Us)
PROMOTIONAny activity related to the program was published in KOMPAS MuDA section & digital
FINANCING & PARTNER
Kompas collaborate with PGN (One of gas company) which had the same vision and mission regarding reinforcement energy-saving behavior to help reduce energy crisis. This event was also being supported by government represented from the Ministry of Energy Resource.
RESULTFifty high-schools submitted their School Program Competition “Aku dan Energi” (Me & Energy), through a series of selection, 5 schools were chosen with the best-implemented energy saving program which succeeded moved most student members to participate.
3 in 1 Car Driving by SMAK IPEKA Puri Indah JakartaEvery student is obliged driving a car carrying a minimum of three passengers to help reduce fuel usage and traffic jam. These activity triggered a movement called “Nebengers” (one student which lives in the same area as their friend is welcome to join aboard the vehicle).
Licensed-Motorcycled Parking Area by SMAN 72 JakartaWith so many motorcycle driven at school, obviously it has increased the fuel usage.
Along with that concern, many students also drive their motorcycle to school unlicensed. Seeing this two problems as opportunity, this program was created to
raise the awareness of not just safety but also environmentally conscious. This parking area can only be use by students who has driving license.
RESULTTogether Help Reduce Energy by SMA Santa Ursula Jakarta
Often after class has finished, the student forgotten to turn-off the air conditioner which caused electricity profuse. This program then ensured that if any class has forgotten to
turn-off the air-con, they are not allowed to study with an air-con the next day.
One Day No Charge by SMAN 48 JakartaSurfing the web never fails to create an excitement among the youngster which included SMAN 48 students. This particular activity definitely decreasing the battery power drastically so they need to charged their mobile phones at school. To reduce the electricity usage and help raise awareness of energy-saving behavior, every Wednesday the school prohibited every student to charges their mobile phones.
Well-adapt Technology School by SMAN 28 JakartaThree classes were used as samples that irradiated by using a solar-panel. This program derived from four students whom a fan of robotic activity, initially build charging station
powered by solar-system for gadgets. After succeeded, they developed the product for an even bigger utilization, which is irradiating several classes.
