Information about the ESIGN Scan Service
www.e-sign.com
Natural surface structures, impressive
product details, brilliant color rendition:
Our high-end Cruse scan system allows digi-
tal and true-to-scale scanning of floor cov -
erings and other interior surface materials
up to individual dimensions of 2,350 mm x
1,350 mm. The even lighting of the products
and special light control with up to 12 dif -
ferent and program-controlled lighting com-
binations render even the finest surface
structures in scanning.
The ESIGN Scan Service offers the pro-
duct scans in three different degrees of
resolution in which the products can be
represen ted and digitized on a scale of 1:1,
1:2 and 1:4. The degrees of resolution deter-
mine which different image formats and
print resolutions can be realized in the pro-
duction of print-ready marketing materials.
The product scans represent the tem -
plates for the production of new detail,
surface and ambiance photos and for photo
processing into print-ready marketing mate-
rials via the ESIGN Rendering Service. In
addition, the FloorMarket Web applications
use the product scans for interactive product
presentation on the Internet.
On the following pages, we present the
high-end scan service in greater detail.

r Technical advantages
Digital product capture in various
degrees of resolution, independ -
ent of format and in the original
size.
Every spot of the surface is cap -
tured at a constant angle and with
constant, homogeneous lighting.
No lens distortion around the
edges or differences in color and
brightness as in photographs.
Special structural scans allow the
rendering of a surface structure
with three-dimensional effect and
even lighting across the entire
area.
Consistent color management
(ICC workflow) according to ISO
12647.
r Quality of visualization
Consistent quality for different
product formats based on uni-
form scanning scale.
No loss of quality for unfavorable
proportions of length and width
(e.g. floorboards sized 2,200 mm
x 180 mm).
Very small scanning distance of
10 to 15 cm.
Brilliant color and surface repre-
sentation.
Extremely sharp structural focus
and detail precision of product
surfaces.
Special surfaces such as brushed
or hand-scraped ones, etc. can be
visualized in detail and over the
entire area with a three-dimen -
sional structural effect.
r Possible uses
Variable generation of scan data
in various degrees of resolution
(scales in terms of original size:
1:1, 1:2 and 1:4).
Various uses of the product scans
for digital and classic marketing
materials.
Media-neutral archiving of pro-
duct scans.
Smooth data import of the pro-
duct scans in the ESIGN applica -
tions.
Efficient usage of the digital data
for the ESIGN Rendering Service.
Can be combined with all room
photos from the roomimage
picture service.

Your advantages for the product visualization
ESIGN Scan Service
6
Before you determine the degree of resolu-
tion for the product scans, you should first
determine where the image data will be
used. Product photos for online marketing
activities require a significantly lower resolu-
tion than printed brochures, catalogs or col-
lection portfolios. As a result, your planned
marketing activities determine the degree of
resolution of the product scans.
The following rule applies: Product scans
with a high resolution can be reduced with -
out loss of quality while magnifications are
typically associated with a loss of quality.
The table on the right lists the maximum
image sizes depending on the scanning scale
and the image perspective.* The differences
in resolution are clearly visible. We would be
happy to advise you about your individual
possibilities.
* The ambiance and surface photos were
generated from product scans using the
ESIGN Rendering Service.

Special scanning methods are used in
order to convincingly represent surface struc-
tures with three-dimensional depth in pro-
duct photos. Prior to the scanning process,
the scanner's light sources are configured in
such a manner as to three-dimensionally
Example: Normal scan
emphasize e.g. brushed and planed surfaces,
synchronous pore structures (embossed in
register) as well as 3D structures in vinyl
surfaces and render them in accordance
with the original in surface photos.

Important product details are often lost
in surface representations of flooring pro-
ducts. To highlight the special features of
your flooring products, ESIGN offers to
generate detail scans on a scale of 1:1,
which explicitly emphasize your products'
individual character.
Example: Composite detail scan
Through so-called composite detail scans
(e.g. with a T-joint), additional product pro-
perties such as bevel types and colors can
be presented in detail and in a near-floor
perspective across a surface.
Example: Detail shot

After digitization, your product scans are not
yet usable for marketing purposes. One of
our included invisible services is the removal
of potential scratches and other disturbances
to ensure the perfect visualization quality of
your products. Therefore, the disruptive ele-
ments are removed before subsequent color
management. Depending on the degree of
contamination, digital cleaning may take
more time, since each scanned element
must be corrected individually.
To keep up the optimized workflow and
avoid potential delays and additional costs,
we recommend checking the products be -
forehand and sending us elements that are
as clean and scratch-free as possible.

For technical reasons during production,
multi-strip products often have an offset
appearance that only becomes visible in the
area representation. For this product group,
the adjustment of strip widths for an offset-
free installation in the area is included in our
standard services. Our service guarantees
the offset-free production of surface and
ambiance photos through the ESIGN
Rendering Service as well as the correct
installation of your products in our Web
applications.

Continuous carpeting
For the visualization of continuous flooring
products, the Scan Service captures the
repeating design pattern. During processing,
we ensure that the design pattern is exactly
and seamlessly combined in the area. This
way, the product photos represent an opti-
mal basis for the production of surface and
ambiance photos.
Continuous boards
Similar to multi-strip products, continuous
boards are often offset. Based on our service
module »Continuous Board Processing«,
we also guarantee offset-free installation of
continuous boards in surface and ambiance
photos and in the product presentations of
our Web applications
.
Generating seamless transitions

The high-end scan system captures a
much larger color spectrum than can be
represented in offset printing. In order to
also ensure correct colors in print, each pro-
duct is subjected to our color management
workflow. The monitor and print representa -
tions are checked multiple times and recon -
ciled with the products until the best result
has been achieved.
From digitization to proof approval, your
data are processed and stored in media-
neutral fashion in a consistently calibrated
system according to the ICC guidelines (ISO
12647). Color transitions are corrected or
contrast is adjusted as needed. To check the
color match, you will receive a contact sheet
for each product that is generated in the ICC
profile Fogra-Proof isocoated 39L.
The final product files will be delivered in
two different color modes:
r in color mode »RGB-ECI V2« for
digital usage and
r in color mode »CMYK isocoated 39L«
for print media.
