Roll Data Project Objectives:
Understand how paper is made Compile information for all rolls on PM2 including Diameter, Cover,
Shell, Roll I.D., Crown, Cover Type, Bearings, Materials, ect. Obtain same information for all spare rolls Check for accuracy Place information into Excel Spreadsheet Learn how to use SAP and get information into program Configure a specific spreadsheet for use by Kevin Kidder and Bill
Wilson, it will be maintained by them after completion.

• I spent a considerable amount of time looking through drawings for information on the rolls

Roll Project: Current Progress
We definitely underestimated the amount of information on the rolls
Still in the information gathering phase for the SAP aspect
Next step will be to learn SAP and implement information there
Spreadsheet for Kevin and Bill complete

Flowmeter Project Objectives:
Determine where the Mill’s water goes Elizabeth began by placing ultrasonic flowmeters on various pipes in
the mill to detect flow Out of the 16 placed, 2 did not get a reading The Unfiltered White Water Pipe and the Filtered White Water Pipe
(UFWW & FWW) did not deliver a reading Also a flowmeter will be installed in Manhole H on the Boulevard
Sewer I took over the Mill Water Usage Monitoring System Project from
Elizabeth Lott due to pregnancy

Using Siemens Portable Flowmeter
I also learned how to utilize specific instrumentation this summer

Flowmeter Project: Current Progress
We proceeded to try different manufactures flowmeters to determine if it was a mechanical failure that caused no reading
We determined that there was not enough water in the pipe to use an ultrasonic flowmeter
Orifice plates were then selected Installation was completed by Turner Electrical Work was completed by Evers

Flowmeter Issues
The only issue encountered upon start up of PM2 was a small leak. After tightening of the bolts the problem was resolved

Flowmeter Project: Current Progress
After setting up Process Control we discovered that the measured flow was outside of the transmitter’s ranges
Higher ranged transmitters were selected and received from the storeroom
When Rudy (Experitec) and I got ready to install the new transmitters it was discovered that the low side valve of the orifice plate was closed. This caused backpressure that sent a reading of much higher flow than was actually the case. Also one of the transmitters was ranged wrong to begin with on the instrument side
After fixing the mistakes and watching the readings for a couple of days, all readings are normal, accurate, and in range
![Page 15: Evergreen Packaging FINAL update 2014](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062503/587ff8681a28ab3a1e8b5721/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Manhole H Flowmeter Progress
Began discussion with Rudy de Anda of Experitec for specifications of manhole and outfall
This flowmeter will be wireless with a ten year battery lifespan and utilize a wireless gateway
Currently waiting on parts to arrive Next step: install flowmeter, mount gateway
and run cat5 and 24V power to caustic plant rack room, then incorporate into PI

Core Shrinkage Study Objectives:
Evaluate the normal shrinkage of a core for the extruders
Determine a way to minimize core shrinkage or at least get some data from which we can adjust our asking cuts on the cores
![Page 18: Evergreen Packaging FINAL update 2014](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062503/587ff8681a28ab3a1e8b5721/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Core Shrinkage Study Course of Action A meeting was conducted with Sonoco, Nero
Haralalka, Rob Luter, Andrew Blue, myself, and others to determine a way to accurately measure shrinkage
Our plan was to go to Sonoco and measure 27 cores of different lengths and ages and bring the back to the mill to be measured periodically in different areas of varying moisture and temperature
The cores were placed in the core room, humidity lab, and also on the wet end. They were measured in the same 4 positions twice daily for a week while recording temperature, humidity, and time

Results of Shrinkage Study
All measurements had strong correlation to one another.
Based off of this information we were able to adjust our asking cut accordingly.

What I have learned Incorporating what I have learned at school into the real world is the most
important thing I have taken from this summer at the Mill From talks with people like Mike Cottrell I have gained a better understanding of all
things electrical There is a lot that goes into making paper This mill spends a ton of money How to do real research Project Management Not all flow meters are created equal How to ask for help How to look up a loop sheet It is always better to go in the field and look with your own eyes How to write a Requisition and Purchase Order Double check EVERYTHING
