Page 1: Expro Excellence Well Intervention… · • Taqa required support for a subsea well intervention campaign in the Dutch sector of the Southern North Sea to: – establish if sustainable

Objectives

• Taqa required support for a subsea wellintervention campaign in the Dutch sectorof the Southern North Sea to:

– establish if sustainable productionfrom the well could be reinstated and if not, prepare the well for a future abandonment programme

– conduct a variety of interventions ranging from wireline fishing, to water shut off, re-perforating, and well testing

• In line with Taqa’s existing contractingframework, Expro were appointed leadcontractor to both modify the vesselready for subsea well intervention andmanage a well services alliancecomprising Expro, BJ Services andBakerHughes

• Taqa identified that a self-propelled liftboat could be modified to performshallow water subsea well intervention, however the vessel selected for thiscampaign was not equipped with a moonpool, and required a cantilever for thisoperation

Expro Excellence

• Key to achieving well re-entry was thefabrication of a cantilever deck that couldbe skidded over the top of the subseawell to form the work platform forintervention equipment

• A cantilever deck was designed andmanufactured by Expro – a primaryfeature was its ability to index throughnine positions to centre itself over the well

• Over a 14 day period, project-specific rigvessel modifications were undertaken topre-install well service equipment, comprising surface well testing, coiltubing, e-line and slickline packages, thisalso included the installation of flarebooms on the port and starboard sidesof the vessel

• Once on location a riser was installed andthe well intervention began with wellinspections using Expro’s slicklineservices to establish if the wells wereclean of debris from surface to thereservoir – the slickline was used torecover the fish and mechanical plugspreviously installed in the well

• Wireline was used extensively throughoutthe project using Expro’s combined e-lineand slickline units to minimise number ofcoiled tubing operations

• The first well required milling to clearblockages in the tubing and a cementplug to be set on top of a mechanicalbridge plug

– The programme also called for production logging and then additional perforating

– In order to clear a restriction in thewell, the tail pipe was cut off using an Expro radial cutting torch

Value to client

• Improvement in productivity following thesuccessful intervention of three wells

• Significant savings – avoided the need fora jack-up rig or intervention vessel

• Single project manager on multi interfaceproject – high operational efficiency

• Fast track delivery using vessel ofopportunity with custom modifications
