16
17
Mathematics Placement Test
• Results are used to determine eligibility for
enrollment in MATH1510
• Any student who absents from the test or
fails the test must take both MATH1020
and MATH1510 in Term 1, 2016-17
• Any student who passes the test can take
MATH1510 alone17
18
Mathematics Placement Test
• Duration: 60 minutes
• 25 MC Questions, 4 marks each
• Calculators are NOT permitted
• Bring your Hong Kong Identity Card or Passport
for identity verification
• Please get your JUPAS / Non-JUPAS application
number ready as you may be asked by the
Mathematics Department to put down such
number on your test paper
18
19
Mathematics Placement Test
Make-up test will only be provided when full
and valid documents are provided in
connection with:
• Hospitalization
• Major illness
• Family death
• Emergency
19
20
Mathematics Placement Test
Application for make-up test:
• Send email to
with a written explanation of your absence
(with full documents) within 2 days of the
placement test, i.e. on either 15th or 16th
August 2016
• No late request or request without
explanation/supporting documents will be
considered 20
21
Mathematics Placement Test
Content:
• Arithmetic & Algebra
• Trigonometry
• Calculus (Differentiation and Integration)
• Probability
• Complex Analysis
For details of the scopes, please refer to the information
sheets given to you. Same information has been posted in
the Faculty website.21
22
Attendance Taking
• Imposed on Faculty Foundation courses, i.e.
ENGG1100, ENGG1110, ENGG1310 and
ENGG1410.
• At least 50% of attendance is required
• Attendance less than 50% will FAIL the whole
course regardless of academic performance
• The best strategy is to attend all classes! If you
are not sure about your attendance, check with
the teaching assistants or the course teachers.
