“Listen Up!!”
“When I called, they did not lis-ten; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Zech. 7:13 Another “gem” from the Minor Prophets!! We all have many conversations with others during the day. You know, it really isn’t polite NOT to listen to the other person! (Pardon the double nega-tives, but you get the point!) If I want the other person to hear what I have to say, I really need to listen to what he is saying to me. It’s the courteous thing to do. Our God is no different! If we expect Him to listen to us (in prayer), shouldn’t we be listening as He speaks to us? I remember Bro. V. E. Howard, long-time preacher from Louisiana who used to preach over the radio many years ago. He would often punctuate his ser-mons with a periodic, “Are You Listen-ing?” It’s a pretty timely question. Am I “listening” to God -- on a daily basis? What right do I have to expect Him to hear me (in prayer) if I’m not listening to Him (in the Word). I have in my Bible, at the above Scripture, the words: “God listens to us in direct proportion to how much we listen to Him.” We’d better listen up! -- Don
