Fast Forward Overview
FAST FORWARD OVERVIEW Fast Forward is program which will allow students to earn either a Jump Start TOPS Tech Career Diploma or a TOPS University Diploma while dually earning an associate degree or participating in a Louisiana Workforce Commission recognized pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship that either prepares graduates for career or continuing postsecondary education.
In this program, students spend the majority of grades 9 and 10 on the high school campus earning core graduation requirements. In grades 11 and 12 they spend the majority of time on the postsecondary campus or postsecondary accredited site on a high school campus dually enrolled in courses to complete graduation requirements as well as earning an associate degree or participating in a pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship opportunity.
The program offered planning grants of $50,000 to one lead school system in each Regional Labor Market Area (RLMA) to collaborate with other school systems in the region, postsecondary partners, economic development organizations, and business and industry to create regionally, economically relevant Fast Forward pathways for students to be approved for statewide use in the 2021-2022 school year.
PATHWAYS DEVELOPED Associate of Applied Science: An associate of applied science is a technical associate degree that can be earned after attending post-secondary school for two years. AAS degree programs are offered by a range of schools, including community colleges, technical schools, and some four-year universities. Associate of Science: An Associate of Science is an academic transfer degree designed for students who will ultimately be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at a four-year college/university. Louisiana Transfer Degree: The Louisiana Transfer Associate Degree is designed to provide students with an opportunity to complete the first 60 hours of course work toward a baccalaureate degree at a 2-year or community college. LT graduates are eligible to enter a 4-year Louisiana public university as a junior, with all 60 (non-developmental) credits transferring to the receiving university. These degrees are consistent at all LCTCS institutions. Pre-apprenticeship/Apprenticeship: Registered Apprenticeship is a unique, federally regulated, workforce development strategy that connects employers looking for qualified workers with job seekers looking to learn new skills. It is an earn and learn strategy and a career pathway that provides apprentices with both hands-on experience, as well as classroom training to ensure they are proficient at their occupation.
