The Chofetz Chaim saw no reason to live luxuriously with physical comfort. It so occurred that his family members had a wooden floor fitted in his house, without the Chofetz Chaim’s knowledge. From the time on, whenever the Chofetz Chaim visited his sister, Mattele, whose house did not possess a wooden floor, he would always extol praise of her home and her earthen floor.
Rav Elchonon Wasserman once asked the Chofetz Chaim “Is a wooden floor not much cleaner? Didn’t Chazal emphasize the importance of keeping a clean home?”
The Chofetz Chaim responded by saying, “My Dear Reb Elchonon, in the homes of our Avos Hakdoshim, there were no wooden floors; they would sweep the floor with a broom….”
One Erev Shabbos, the Chofetz Chaim noticed a family member buffing the wooden floor. He sighed and commented, “Instead of washing the floor, would it not be better to wash our Neshamos so that they are pure and shine?”
The Chofetz Chaim did not overspend even when it came to spending money on Seforim and Hiddur Mitzvah. His entire
life was lived according to the principle that money is time and time is life and life is for doing Mitzvos, Massim Tovim and learning Torah.
The Chofetz Chaim’s Rebbetzin once approached him and said, “Rav Chaim Ozer Grodzinski has curtains on his windows?” She then also listed a few other items which Rav Chaim Ozer possessed and which the Chofetz Chiam considered luxuries. The Chofetz Chaim replied by saying, “Rav Chaim Ozer is the Nasi of Klal Yisroel and with regard to the Nasi, the Passuk states, ‘He must be raised above his brothers.’ Rav Chaim Ozer is therefore forced to suffer with these luxuries even though it is really against his will. As for me, Boruch Hashem, I am a simple man and I have no need for any of these things.”
The Chofetz Chaim often stated that if one uses his mind to think about buying luxuries, he will not have the proper peace of mind to be able to completely delve into Torah learning.
While we cannot live the lifestyle the Chofetz Chaim lived, it certainly provides us with a glimpse with what life was like for our Gedolim and to where we can aspire to!

Fact: Washing your hands with soap and water is a great way to prevent the spread of infectious disease. Doctors and nurses discovered this decades ago when they found that by simply washing their hands in between patients, the incidence of infections in hospitals was greatly reduced.
Fiction: Using antibacterial soaps, hand sanitizers and common household cleaners to kill germs is a good way to protect yourself and your family from illnesses such as the flu and common cold.
These days, antibacterial dispensers are located in office buildings, schools, restaurants, airports — you name it. But in reality, they may do more harm than good.
Our society has been brainwashed into believing that the more sterile we are able to make things, the better. This could not be farther from the truth. And unfortunately, we’ve become a nation of germophobes, afraid to touch innocuous objects and afraid to touch each other. Worse yet, we’re indoctrinating our children into thinking the same thing — slathering them with antibacterial everything,
and making them afraid to touch anything “dirty.” It would be one thing if this behavior was making us healthier — but guess what — it’s not!
Certainly, basic sanitation practices are essential to preventing the spread of infectious disease, but that’s where it ends.
According to a University of Michigan study, use of soaps containing triclosan, the active ingredient in most antibacterial products, are no more effective than plain soap at preventing infectious illness symptoms or reducing bacteria on the hands. Triclosan is a known toxin that has been linked to impaired muscle function and heart problems. The Michigan reseachers concluded that using antibacterial products can actually make you sicker, by creating bacteria resistant germs and by rendering antibiotics less effective
By all means, wash your hands frequently. But you don’t need antibacterial hand soap. And perhaps most importantly, learn how to boost your immune system naturally with probiotics, vitamin D, vitamin C, garlic, and other healing foods and supplements — so you can fight off the bad germs without killing off the good ones!

A man named William Stukeley has the first known appearance of this myth. One of his letters written in 1754 says that “ the Chinese Wall, […] makes a considerable figure upon the terrestrial globe, and may be discerned at the moon.”
This fake fact even appeared in a Ripley’s Believe it or Not strop, and the Second Book of marvels. In fact, in order for the Great Wall to be seen from the moon, it would have to be over 70 miles in diameter, and have to have significant contrast with the areas surrounding it. The Great Wall is at most 30 feet wide, and of similar color to the soil around it.
To put it in context, the width of the Great Wall as seen from the moon would appear the same as if you viewed a human hair from 2 miles away.

Ever heard that the Great Wall can be seen from the moon? It’s FALSE and the myth
started in 1754!Wanting to be someone you’re not is a waste of the person you are.
A woman calls her dentist and asks him how much it will cost to extract a wisdom tooth.
“$500,” the dentist says. “That’s a ridiculous amount,”
the woman says. “Isn’t there a cheaper way?”
“Well,” the dentist says, “if I don’t use an anesthetic, I can knock it down to $60.”
“Great,” says the woman, “book my husband for next Tuesday!”
