PREPARATION OF PATIENTS
FASTINGFood is withheld from dogs and cats for 8 to 12 hours, and water for 2 hours,

CANINE ANESTHESIA
For controlling ferocious dogs
1. Acepromazine (Acepril)- 0.03-0.05 mg/ Kg ( upto 0.2) BW, IM, wait for 20- 25 minutes for excellent tranquilization ( Does not provides analgesia)
2. Inj. Diazepam – 1 mg/Kg BW, IV
3. Inj Buturm- 0.2 mg/Kg BW, IM + Inj. Acepromazine- 0.02-0.03 mg/Kg BW, IM
4. Inj. Xylazine- 1mg/kgBW IM….. Take care?????

First combinationAtropine - 0.04 mg/kg S/C after 15-20 minutes
Xylazine - 2mg/kg BW + Ketamine – 10 mg/Kg BW, mixed in a single syringe I/M and maintenance mostly by ketamine using I/V route.
Duration of anaesthesia is 5-15 minutes..

Second combinationAtropine –0.04 mg/kg S/CAfter 15 minutes
Diazepam – 0.4 mg/kg + Ketamine – 6-12 mg/kg in a single syringe I/V and maintenance mostly by ketamine using I/V route.
Duration of anaesthesia is 5-15 minutes.

Never over-restrain a cat!
Too much force makes the cat struggle.
If you engage in a battle of wills, you will lose.If a cat gets over excited, stop and return the cat to his cage. Let him relax a while.
Use the minimum restraint necessary to do the procedure.
Persuade (not force) the cat to cooperate.

Cat: Common Procedures

ANESTHESIA IN CATS

For anesthesiaAtropine – 0.04 mg/kg S/C After 15 minutesAcepromazine – 0.1 mg/kg S/C and after 10 minutes OR diazepam 0.2-0.5 mg/Kg, BW, IVKetamine –3-5mg/kg I/VDuration of anesthesia is10 min, redosing if necessary can be done with ketamine “to effect”.
