Pre and Ancient hat
Hair/Animal Skin (Pre and Ancient)Hatshave been around for a very long
time. It is impossible to say when the firstanimal skin was pulled over a head asprotection against the elements and
although this was not a hat in the truesense, it was realized that covering yourhead could sometimes be an advantage. Also in these times hair was worn long.
This was mainly due to not having thetools to cut it but it is also the bodys way
of giving protection from the elements.

Wimple (Middle Ages) In the 12th Century the
well dressed lady did not go about without some
head covering and so the Wimple was developed.
It was adopted by both modest and fashionable
women. The most modest way to wear it was overthe chin, completely concealing the hair whilst
fashionable ladies would wear it under the chin
and with some hair showing. Although less popular
by the 14th Century, the Wimpole remained a
common piece of female attire throughout the
period. A veil could be attached to it if desired to
make it more attractive. It was made from a
variety of fabrics from fine linens to silks. For the
poorer woman, thick wool was both a practical
and warm option.

Capotain (Modern times)
A capotain hat is a tall-crowned, narrow-
brimmed hat, worn by men and women inEngland and northwestern Europe from the
1950s. The capotain is especially associatedwith the Puritan costume in England in theyears leading up to the English Civil War andduring the early years of the Commonwealth. It is also commonly called a Flat Topped Hatand a Pilgrim hat, the latter for its associationwith the Pilgrims that settled in the PlymouthColony in the 1620s. Contrary to popular myth, capotains never included buckles on the frontof them; this image was created in the 19thcentury.

Ogham (English pronunciation: oh-am)is an Early Medieval alphabet usedprimarily to write the Old Irish language, and occasionally the Brythoniclanguage.[3] Ogham is sometimes calledthe "Celtic Tree Alphabet", based on aHigh Medieval Bratharogam traditionascribing names of trees to theindividual letters. There are roughly 400surviving ogham inscriptions on stone
monuments throughout Ireland andwestern Britain; the bulk of them are inthe south of Ireland, in Counties Kerry,Cork and Waterford.
