Special News from our Board and the Vision Team! Last month you read a note from Sandi Anderson, our moderator concerning our building. Again, we have no plans to sell our building. We hope to be able to stay in our place as long as we can. However, we are all aware that our church has grown smaller and we live in a large building, and our financial situation has been very difficult for quite a while. Our vision team has been wrestling with all types of questions. Can we afford to stay here? Should we move to a smaller place? Could we share our building with someone else? Could we rent out church space? While we are exploring all types of opportunities, it was decided at the June Board Meeting to slim down the many items we have collected over the years in various areas. If there is a potential to rent or lease out space (especially in Gillium Hall), it would be good to have those rooms empty and available. So what does that mean for our church — for our Sun-day School classes? It was also proposed that we find different space in the Fellowship Hall, Dr. Lydia and Of-fice Hallway to move those room items into. We will cre-ate a new space for our Youth Room and Children’s Sunday School classroom. The Board and Vision feel that this could be done over the summer, in preparation for our Fall activities. The Vision Team and Church Board is wanting to be as
transparent with our church as we possibly can. There is still more information that we are working on and will share with the congregation soon. For now, please hold our
Greetings in the Name of Christ! Dear friends, I shared this past Sunday of my sad experience as the on call chaplain at Genesis Hospital this past Fri-day night. I responded to an emergency Trauma in the very early hours of Saturday morning. When I receive a page in the middle of the night, I never know what I may encounter. It could be a stroke alert, or a code blue. It could be someone who has been in an accident. But unfortunately, many of the early morning calls on the weekend have been because of gun violence in the Quad Cities. While I can not ex-plain why this is happening in our community, what I do know is that too many of our young His-panic and African American men are needlessly engaging in violence. And many innocent victims are caught in the middle of this fighting. As Christians, What can we do to make this situation end? Well I wish I had the answer to that too, but I know that I can’t sit by anymore. I know we can pray for the families of the innocent victims, we can pray for the people involved to see that violence doesn’t solve problems. But sometimes, something more than just prayers need to be done. The PUNCH churches and pas-tors have moved to support the Memorial to those Lost to Violence display will be traveling around our neighborhood this summer. Look for the Bright colored t-shirts with the names, dates, and ages of victims who died from gun violence. Be-cause we stand together to stop no more vio-

I applaud the initiative of anonymous, and I repeat
constant and continuous deficits are not the friend of
households, businesses, and certainly not this church.
To erase our 1st/Quarter deficit, anonymous requests 9
units to give $ 500, but that would only relieve ½ of
the 1st/Qtr deficit. To completely erase the 1st/Qtr
deficit 9 giving units would have to give $1,000, (better
yet) have 18 giving units to give $500, or 36 giving
units to give $ 250, and even better yet 72 giving units
to give $ 125, and that is just for the first quarter
deficit.
Over the last several quarters the church
administrators who oversee the actual spending of our
dollars have done a good job under spending the
approved budget, on the other hand we the church
membership have done a poor job in funding those
budgets and actual expenses that we voted in. Let us
follow anonymous lead by balancing the first quarters
deficit, after all this is just the first quarter we have 3
more to do.
Sincerely Dennis Duvall

Thanksgiving in July
Returns in 2018
Thanksgiving in July is back!
Cupboards in low income households
are frequently near empty during the summer months when
the children are out of school.
Churches United’s 24 neighborhood food pantries struggle to
meet the increased demand without cutting back on services.
We depend on the community to help fill the shelves so that
we can feed the hungry all summer long and into the fall!
The items most frequently requested by food pantry clients
are: baby food, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, rice and
pasta, boxed instant potatoes, canned meat (tuna, chicken,
and Spam), canned fruit and vegetables, nonperishable boxed
meals, and diapers.
Contributions will be collected from July 1-31 in containers
at Fareway stores in Moline, Davenport and Bettendorf;
K&K Hardware, Caddy’s Sports Bar and Grill, QC Core Chi-
ropractic, and Dewey’s at the Bettendorf Library, all in Bet-
tendorf; and at our very own Winnie’s Wishes Resale Shop
in Davenport. Cash donations and checks made payable to
