Syntron® Heavy-Duty Electromagnetic FeedersBulk material feeding with full-range control.

Syntron® Heavy-Duty Electro-magnetic Feeders come in tendifferent models with capacitiesranging from 25 to 1600 tons perhour.* These versatile feeders arecapable of handling a variety ofmaterials from the finest powders to large, coarse particles.

Syntron ElectromagneticFeeders can be supplied in variousconfigurations including multiple-drive units and above-deck driveunits. Above-deck drive units arerecommended where there is insuf-ficient space below the trough.

Syntron ElectromagneticFeeders require minimal main-tenance as there are no mechanicalparts to wear out, such as cams, eccentrics, belts and bearings —thus eliminating the need forlubrication. All movement is con-fined to the heavy-duty leafsprings. Electrical components, such as the coil, will provide yearsof service under normal operatingconditions. Dust-tight drive unitsare standard on all models.

Dependable, flexible controlsprovide easily adjustable feed rateswith instantaneous response. Avariety of controls with specialcontrol arrangements are available.(For more information on electro-magnetic feeder controls, see pages14 and 15.)

Material Handling Solutions

Syntron® ElectromagneticFeeders are normally installedby suspension mountingwith four flexible wire ropecables. They can also be sup-plied for base mounting on asolid base, or with a combi-nation of base mounting andsuspension mounting.

Syntron Electromagnetic Feeders are ideal for use in a stationary opera-tion such as a tunnel system from a surge pile. They are usually con-trolled from a remote point to provide the desired feed rate. In this appli-cation, a model FH-22 feeds limestone to a belt conveyor.

Syntron® F-380 Electromagnetic Feeder withabove-deck drive unit evenly distributes parts at aconsistent rate to a heat treatment furnace.

Sub-Resonant Tuning for Electromagnetic Feeders

Low sub-resonant tuning is thekey characteristic of Syntron®electromagnetic feeders, makingthem the most stable and consistentfeeders available on the market.

Feeder tuning involves adjust-ment of the natural frequency ofthe feeder in relationship to itsoperating frequency. If the operat-ing frequency is greater than thenatural frequency, the feeder issuper-resonant tuned, making itvery unstable under headload.Conversely, if the natural frequencyis greater than the operating fre-quency, the feeder is sub-resonanttuned, making it more consistentand stable under headload.

Electromagnetic feeders aretuned through careful calculationof the number and thickness ofthe special leaf springs required toaccomplish the desired tuning ratio.

Regardless of manufacturer, all heavy-duty, two-mass electro-magnetic vibrating feeders are sub-resonant tuned. For sub-resonanttuned feeders, the distance fromresonance is critical to feeder per-formance. Most manufacturerstune their feeders closer to reso-nance, while Syntron electromag-netic feeders are tuned furtherfrom resonance.

The operating frequency of all Syntron® Heavy-Duty ElectromagneticFeeders is checked at our test stations before shipment.

Material damping and othervariations in headload cause fluc-tuations in capacity and feed ratesof all sub-resonant tuned feeders.Because Syntron electromagneticfeeders are tuned further from res-onance, capacity and feed ratesremain more stable and consistenteven when the feeder is subjectedto material damping and othervariations in headload.

This is why Syntron electro-magnetic Feeders are the best solu-tion for rugged material handlingapplications.

Syntron® electromagnetic feeders, cont’d.

Electromagnetic Feeder Troughs

Syntron® Electromagnetic Feeder models FH-22 through F-88 can be fur-nished with standard flat-bottom troughs, special flat-bottom troughs or belt-centering discharge troughs.

Drive units can be positioned either above or below the trough. A below-deck drive unit is most commonly used, but above-deck drive units can be supplied for installations where there is insufficient space below the trough. However, an above-deck drive unit may reduce feeder capacity slightly.

Capacities for feeder models with standard troughs are based on dry sandweighing 100 pounds per cubic foot. Capacities vary depending on drive unitlocation, material characteristics, material density, trough length and width, trough liner type, feeder installation, skirt boards and hopper transitions.

Several trough options are available for special applications. Syntron® extra- long feeder troughs can be supplied with either below-deck or above-deck multiple electromagnetic drive units. Extra-long feeder troughs providemany advantages in conveying materials over long distances; unlike belt con-veyors, there are no idlers or pulley drive units to wear, lubricate, or replace.Long tubular troughs can convey pure, clean materials without atmosphericcontamination and safely convey dusty, poisonous materials without endanger-ing processing personnel.

Other trough options include:

• Syntron vibrating inspection tables feed material forward at a smooth, controlled rate of flow. This enables an operator to remove material that does not meet specification.

• Syntron “spreader” feeders spread a wide, even layer of material with a diagonal discharge trough or diagonal-slotted trough.

• Electrically heated trough liner plates minimize accumulation of damp orwet materials in feeder troughs. Available only on specially designed feed-ers, heated liner plates increase feeder efficiency by eliminating the down-time required to clean troughs. They are especially effective for materialswith moisture contents ranging from five to fifteen percent. The electricheating element is insulated and sandwiched between two steel plates.

Syntron F-560 Electromagnetic Feeder withtwo drive units.

Syntron® Electromagnetic drive units can be combined to create feeders ideally suited for specialapplications.

Multiple-drive units, positioned one behind theother, result in a long, vibrating conveyor. When anespecially wide material layer is desired, multiple-driveunits can be placed side by side on extra wide feedertroughs. The number of drive units required is deter-mined by the trough width and length.

Dual-twin drive units — two sets of twin driveunits, one set placed behind the other — provide bothincreased capacity and the ability to handle exception-ally heavy loads.

The material flow rate of all multiple-drive unitmodels can be easily regulated. A special control per-mits adjustment of all drive units simultaneously tocontrol the flow rate of the entire feeder.
