use The Juvenile and ProbateCourthouseThe Juvenile amd Probate Courthouse (JC),along with the Juvenile Justice Complex, isone of two justice facilities located alongVineyard Avenue in Oxnard. The JC includestwo juvenile dependency courtrooms, twojuvenile delinquency courtrooms, oneProbate courtroom and one general trialcourtroom. The JC also houses sta� from theo�ces of the County Counsel, DistrictAttorney, Human Services Agency, PublicDefender, and Sheri�, relating to juvenile.

Adjacent to the JC is Probation’s JuvenileDetention Facility. This 420-bed detentioncommitment facility was o�cially namedafter Judge Steven Z. Perren by the Boardof Supervisors in recognitino of his stronge�ors to bring the project to fruition.

The Juvenile and Probate Courthouse along with the Juvenile Detention Facilitybrings courtrooms, classrooms, counselingservices, administrative o�ces and detention facility to one locatino, and hassigni�cantl changed juvenile justice in Ventura County.

The Superior Court Clerk’s O�ce processes�lings relating to juvenile delinquency,dependency, adoptions, probate andguardianships. Payments for tra�c citationsmay also be made at the clerk’s o�ce.

JUVENILE HEARINGS

SUPERIOR COURT CLERK’S OFFICE

Probate and matters relating to guardianships of the estateare heard in Courtroom J6. All probate and guardianship�lings are done in Room 122. Tentative Rulings may beviewed on the court’s website.

PROBATE

The Family Resource Center provides self-representedlitigants with the opportunity to obtain and completecourt forms; conduct research; attend workshops; and readself-help manuals. It is sta�ed by bilingual self-helpassistants but attorneys are not on-site except for workshops.Visit the court’s website for hours and more information.

FAMILY RESOURCES SELF-HELP CENTER

Juvenile matters are con�dential andproceedings are not open to the public.Juvenile records are con�dential and can onlybe viewed by speci�c parties and agencies orby order of the Presiding Judge of the JuvenileCourt. Due to the con�dentiality of juvenilerecords, information cannot be given out overthe telephone.

The Children’s Waiting Room is a drop-in service designedto provide a supervised environment in which parentsmay leave their children, ages 2 ½ (must be potty trained) to 14, while conducting court business.

COLLECTIONSFirst Floor, Room 122

The Superior Court’s Collection Unit collects, records, anddisburses funds ordered by the Court. Payments areaccepted at all three court locations. The Hall of Justicelocation has extended hours. Please visit the court’swebsite for more information.

SEALING JUVENILE RECORDSThe petition for sealing a juvenile record may be obtainedfrom either the Court Clerk’s O�ce or our website. Thereis a fee payable to the Superior Court upon �ling thepetition.

County CounselRoom 193County Counsel represents the Human ServicesAgency, Children and Family Services at alldependency court hearings.

Second FloorDistrict AttorneyRoom 291The District Attorney (DA), as the chief lawenforcement o�cer of the county, is chargedwith the duty to see that the laws are fairly andfaithfully enforced in order to maintain the ruleof law. As the “People’s” lawyer, the DA isresponsible for all misdemeanor and felonyprosecutions in the county.

Public DefenderRoom 296The Public Defender is appointed by the Courtto represent juveniles in the defense of criminalcharges. The Public Defender also representspersons unable to care for themselves or theirestates by reason of mental or physical condition.
