Linguistic strengthening
Bilingual education from CP to CM2 has started this year, and will
allow each child to learn both languages according to their own
needs and skills. Depending on the language profile of each child,
teachers will adapt their teaching techniques. Teachers specializing
in French as a foreign language will develop the learning of French
and English teachers will allow children to progress in English. Hours
of language reinforcement will further accentuate pedagogical
differentiation so that each child progresses at his or her own pace.

Junior high school
In high school, we have three levels (a new reform is ongoing
and we are going to talk about it later) : Seconde générale is
common to all students wanting to pursue an education in the
regular curriculum. Première and terminale, with different majors
or emphases, lead to the baccalauréat examinations.
The Baccalauréat validates a combination of knowlegde and
abilities at the end of the secondary cycle and marks the first
step towards graduate education. It thus enables the student to
pursue a University level education.
The general curriculum is composed of three emphases (ES, L et
S) which lead to the baccalauréat.
This is the pathway to graduate education mainly in university,
elite or specialized schools.
Senior secondary
Literary emphasis (L) :
Is focused on literary studies in relation with the contemporary
world, and promotes the study of languages while offering a wide
array of options.
Economics and social science emphasis (ES) :
Is focused on Economics and Social Sciences, and allows the
students to progressively master the concepts, methods and
theses that are essential to the three major social sciences:
Economics, Sociology and Political Science.
Sciences emphasis (S) :
Has been reorganized to attract students who are passionate
about science.
Different options in Senior
Secondary
Reform of the Baccalauréat
and the lycée
Baccalauréat :
The 2021 baccalauréat will be based, on the one hand, on
continuous assessment and, on the other hand, on final
papers.
An early written and oral French exam will take place, as
is the case now, at the end of the Première class.
In Terminale, two written exams on major subjects will
take place in the Spring and two other exams will take
place in June: the written Philosophy exam and the final
oral exam, for which preparation has been carried out
throughout the Première and Terminale classes (final
stage).
Continuous assessment shall be made up of common
exams organized during the final stage.
Reform of the Baccalauréat
and the lycée
Organization of the courses taught :
No more specializations in the General Section. There will
be a common-core syllabus referred to as „Basis of
General Knowledge‟, in addition to Major Subjects (3 in
Première and 2 in Terminale for a total of 12 hours per
week), along with periods for preparation to career
guidance.
The specializations remain the same in the Technology
Section. No major changes are being considered.
Reform of the Baccalauréat
and the lycée
Admission into Seconde :
There will be some changes in Seconde class in August
2018, while we expect some other changes to be
introduced later on during the school year:
- A digital placement test at the beginning of the year in
order for each pupil to know his/her level in French and
Mathematics. (But not this year in the AEFE)
- Individual assistance throughout the year, with special
emphasis on the improvement of written and oral
expression.
- Assistance for career guidance for support towards the
Première class (54 hours per year).
Accessible to all and one of the best in the world : The French system
The French higher education system is one of excellence and has been
acknowledeged as such throughout the world: In the Shangai
ranking, the Financial Times, the Times or the European Report on
Science & Technologies, French institutions have taken center stage.
Here lies yet another French paradox: one of the best systems in the
world, yet one of the most financially accessible.
French achievements in the fields of industry, technologies and
science ( space, transportation, medicine, mathematics) and the
number of Nobel Prizes and Field Medals won show that France is one
of the most dynamic centres for innovation and research.
In France, higher education institutions can count on a network of
research laboratories and on the abilities of seasoned professionals.
After high school
Timetable
An online tool at parents‟ disposal : Pronote
it allows you to follow your child‟s progress: lessons,
homework, exams and grades.
Parents teachers meetings and report cards:
Will be taking place at the end of the First and second
terms.

Organization of the school year
The aims of our School Project, for the years 2017
through 2021, are the result of a major brainstorming
exercise which brought together the whole school
community for several months.
The exercise, which was far from being a simple one,
was aimed at aligning the objectives of the French
Ministry of Education, as well as those of AEFE and
the Central Africa Zone, with the specificities of our
School.
The project of primary and secondary
school 2017-2021
It was a success since it led to the drafting of a daring
document, for both primary and secondary schools,
whose main concern is to make sure that all our pupils
and students, from nursery school to Terminale,
perform well.
The document deals with all the fields of teaching and
education with a view to implementing them in an
ambitious and resolute manner.
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
The contents of the new working framework, which is
laced with the values which are dear to France, shall
be compulsory for all those involved as from the 2017
new school year and will be used to mould, with
excellence as a thread, one year after the other, the
women and men of tomorrow, as people who are rich
with knowledge, in love with cultures, steeped in firm
beliefs and filled with values.
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
Path 1: The teaching of languages as a major priority
The teaching of languages is an essential objective of
the School Project. Within a framework of multilingual
and intercultural education, this must enable our pupils
and students to understand linguistic mechanisms
while reaching the demands of the institution.
At the same time, this also helps to improve motivation
and inquisitiveness; which helps to better understand a
culture, since language is the natural vehicle of culture.
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
Path 1: The teaching of languages as a major priority
Objective N°1 : The Mastery of French
language
Objective N°2 : Developing a multilingual
approach
Objective N°3 : Arrangements for enhancing
the value of languages
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
Path 2: Culture as a path to success
The inclusion of culture as part of the development of
knowledge and well-being is a very pertinent and
fascinating manner to enjoy one‟s freedom of
expression through the mastery of one‟s own culture
and the discovery of other cultures.
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
Path 2: Culture as a path to success
Objective N°1 : Literary and Classical
Culture
Objective N°2 : Scientific Culture
Objective N°3: Artistic culture (painting,
sculpture, music, singing,
dance, theatre, …)
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
Path 3: Training the Pupils and Students to be good
citizens and members of the community
The French education system strongly believes in the
promotion of civic and community values. These are
put into use in every field of life and they are essential
to relationships among people, societies and cultures.
In a wider sense, they have to do with the protection of
the environment and health education. They trigger
new behaviours and strong commitment to a world
which pays more attention to the future of each
individual and to all of us.
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
Path 3: Training the Pupils and Students to be good
citizens and members of the community
Objective N° 1 : Citizenship Education
Objective N° 2 : Education in environmental
and community issues
Objective N° 3 : Health Education
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
Path 4: Excellence for all as a shared ambition
Excellence, as a shared ambition towards the
achievement of success for all, is the holy Grail to be
reached. It forms part of every field in teaching and
education. It must govern every step of the activities
undertaken at individual and group levels. It is about
charting new pathways, creating innovations, being
clearly … disruptive.
The project of primary and
secondary school 2017-2021
Path 4: Excellence for all as a shared ambition
