Session 3. GNSS AND PNT - WHERE IS IT HEADING?GNSS has come a long way in Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) since 1993, when GPS had 24 satellites in orbit, and declared IOC. We now have the US GPS and the Russian Glonass in FOC, with the Chinese Beidou-Compass in IOC, and the European Galileo approaching IOC in 2015/2016. By then we shall also have several regional systems, such as the Indian IRNSS and the Japanese QZSS. Multi-GNSS tools are offering a wide variety of PNT applications to government, business and private consumers, who require maximum efficiency (in terms of accuracy, reliability and resistance to interference) and low cost. This Panel Session will concentrate on application pro-blems, especially in safety and security critical, and commercial applications.

Afternoon. GNSS AND MARKET
Session 4 GLOBAL GNSS MARKET FACTS, TRENDS AND FORECASTSWith almost 4 bln GNSS devices used worldwide and all regions experiencing growth, GNSS re-presents an unprecedented business opportunity. Today we are witnessing a major shift in GNSS R&D, moving from a technology to a user-focus, which means that GNSS will play a more promi-nent role in our lives. The European GNSS Agency (GSA) has put together a team of market mo-nitoring experts to take a closer look at each GNSS application area, its size and value, and used advanced forecasting techniques to look into the future. During this session, the GSA will officially unveil the 4th Issue of its GNSS Market Report, an authoritative and comprehensive analysis of the Global Navigation Satellite System market which summarizes the results of 15 months research. It examines both hardware and software market opportunities, technology trends and future deve-lopments. Presentation of the top-line results will be followed by a roundtable discussion where leaders from key industry segments will discuss the forecasted market and technology evolution.

Old products disappear as a result of obsolescence, new products appear as a result of technological progress. Which are the emerging GNSS applications being developed in the diffe-rent regions of the world? Which are the key players on these emerging GNSS application markets? Which are the main barriers for industry to entry into the different emerging GNSS application markets?

Morning. FUTURE OF GNSS IN THE USER SEGMENT Thursday, March 26, 2015
Session 7 SPACE GEODESY, SPACE NAVIGATION, REFLECTOMETRYOriginally conceived as a navigation system for terrestrial and airborne users, GPS has soon found its way into space. Meanwhile GNSS receivers are commonly used for navigation of space vehicles, but also serve as science instruments to probe the atmosphere, the ocean surface and the gravity field of the Earth. What are the trends and challenges in spaceborne navigation? How can space geodesy benefit from new signals and constellations? Can GNSS receivers in space help to build a global tsunami warning system? These and related questions will be addressed by the panelists.
Chairman:Dr. Oliver Montenbruck, Head of the GNSS Technology and Navigation Group, German Space Operations Center (GSOC), German Aerospace Center (DLR), Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany
Panel Members:Manfred Sust, Engineering, RUAG Space GmbH, Vienna, AustriaDr. Stefan Sassen, Airbus Defence & Space, Ottobrunn, Germany Prof. Dr. Antonio Rius, IEEC/CSIC, Barcelona, SpainProf. Dr. Roland Pail, Chair of Astronomical and Physical Geodesy, Technical University, Munich, Germany Jens Wickert, Helmholtz Centre Potsdam - GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, Potsdam, Germany
MORNING COFFEE
Session 8 ALTERNATIVE POSITION NAVIGATION AND TIME (APNT)An increasing number of systems derive their position from GNSS measurements. At the same time terrestrial systems are decommissioned (LORAN, NDB, VOR). Due to the vulnerability of GNSS to interference and due the dependency on a single system, this is increasingly considered as an exposure. Thus various communities have started developing alternative PNT systems for backup purposes. The challenge with such developments is to find a good compromise between function-ality and costs. This session will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of various options.
Chairman:Prof. Dr. Michael Meurer, Institute of Communications and Navigation, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany
Panel Members:Belabbas Boubeker, Institute of Communications and Navigation, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Oberpfaffenhofen, GermanyProf. Per Enge, Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, USAMichael Hoppe, Fachstelle der WSV für Verkehrstechniken, Koblenz, GermanyDeborah Lawrence, Manager, Navigation Programs, Federal Aviation Administration, Washington, DC, USADr. Nick Ward, Research & Radio Navigation Directorate, General Lighthouse Authorities, London, UKProf. Dr. Wouter Pelgrum, Ohio University, Athens, OH, USA
Session 9 PROCESSOR AND SEMICONDUCTOR TRENDS FOR GNSS RECEIVERS GNSS receiver architecture trends are reversing from host-based back to system-on-chip; to enable low-power location, processing is offloaded from the host back to the GNSS chip. A premium is placed on fast acquisition, duty cycling, low standby power and leakage currents. We will discuss these trends, also the future of Moore’s law: is it slowing down, by how much, and how much longer before we run into fundamental limits? And then what? We’ll go from chip design issues of today, to the GNSS of tomorrow, and finally we’ll peer ahead at the fundamental physics underlying the electronics of the future.

Afternoon. MULTI-GNSS AND ITS IMPACT ON DAILY LIFE
Session 10 GPS IN A MULTI-GNSS WORLD - SESSION IS ORGANIZED BY THE CGSIC INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION SUBCOMMITTEEWhat are service providers doing to prepare for an eventuality that will see four GNSS overhead, each with its own regional SBAS? How are transportation officials and equipment manufacturers providing for user safety and efficiencies by helping to make a global journey seamless and afforda-ble? What are the international trade issues we will all be faced with? How is the international community banding together to address operational issues such as interference detection and miti-gation, interoperability and standardization and improving cooperation between service providers? What challenges will service providers have to overcome to operate in a multi-GNSS world?
Chairman:John Wilde, CEO and Director, DW International Limited, Hants, UK
Panel Members:Raymond Clore, Senior GPS Advisor, U.S. Department of State, Washington, DC, USA Lt Col Matthew Brandt, Director of Operations, U.S. Air Force Second Space Operations Squadron, Schriever Air Force Base, CO, USACAPT William Burns, Commanding Officer, U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center, Alexandria, VA, USADeborah Lawrence, Manager, Navigation Programs, Federal Aviation Administration, Washington, DC, USAHarold Martin, Director, National Coordination Office for Space-Based PNT, Washington, DC, USA
Session 11 THE ROLE OF GNSS AND SPACE SENSORS IN “BIG DATA”?„Big Data” is a new evolving concept in sampling and combining many data bases which were ini-tially collected for different purpose. Big Data comprises the data accumulation and the processing steps with respect to certain target functions. In contrary to “Small Data” the amount of data is ex-tremely large and cannot be handled by classical computer networks. Potentially the collected data is derived from the internet, financial transactions, fixed & mobile communication as well as social networks and PNT. The space time context of Big Data is introduced by GNSS. In the plenary the chances and risks of “Big Data” will be discussed with a certain focus on GNSS and other space related data sources.
