Youth Nutrition and its Relation to
TechnologyBy Elizabeth Willis
ThesisAdvancing technology is creating unhealthier
younger generation through the means of dieting and nutrition
IntroductionI am interested in analyzing this topic because…
My mother is a dietician so I have grown up with an emphasis put on nutrition and healthy eating habits
I think it’s important for us to be aware of how we can change our ways and become an all-around healthier generation by being conscious of what we are eating and putting into our bodies
Supportive Reasons
Convenience Over HealthMicrowaves, vending machines, etc. When vending machines present in schools,
statistics of kids eating unhealthy food drastically go up
Emphasis on speed and convenience instead of what we should be eating to stay healthy
Chemicals Created by Technology for our FoodNew ingredients and products being created to make
foods “healthier”, don’t know what we are eatingNeed to return back to eating what we know and
recognize as food
Supportive Reasons Continued
Technological Media Advertising Promoting Bad Eating Habits Advertising is the number one cause of obesity in the US Falling victim to food and beverage advertisements that
are promoting unhealthy eating on TV and online Now on children’s websites and are creating an
unhealthy mindset in kidsNew Online Dieting Programs
Overwhelming amount of options, not particularly helpful Provides more room for people to not follow the rules of
their diet Lack of personal contact with a dietician or trainer has
proven to be less effective than online dieting programs
ConclusionWe need to become informed about the state of our
health because right now we are down a dangerous path
Future generations also headed this same direction if we don’t stop it now
Technology is rapidly increasing in the role that it plays in our lives and in its advances, it is frightening to think about how in the near future it will have an even greater impact on our young generation, and what state of health that will leave us in
Need to take control over technology and return back to the basics of nutrition
