International School Award & Rivers of the World project
GED supported eight schools to submit "amazing applications" for British Council International School Award (ISA) during 2014/2015. This award is prestigious, free of charge and open to all types of school wishing to develop and celebrate international work within the curriculum. Derby Moor Community Sports College was one of the schools to access our advice and successfully achieve reaccreditation. GED signposted the school to the Rivers of the World Project, strengthening creativity and international collaboration through Art. GED will again be offering ISA briefing sessions to support schools to understand award requirements very soon. Look out for details or contact us if you would like to know more.

YOUTH & COMMUNITY WORK
Opening Out: Since the Summer break, the first group of young people have successfully gone through the course and are well on their way to being active community citizens. They have been involved in critical discussions on their roles in society of a local, social and global level. A group of 26 young people are all successfully getting themselves out there to make a positive impact on their neighbourhoods through collective action and event.
The Opening Out project has had a positive impact on work at Normanton Academy and are inviting you to get involved. We are currently recruiting young people to participate in our second round of classes set to start after half term.
There are community events, Chai mornings and mentoring training that you can also take advantage of by reaching out and contacting us: [email protected] / 01332 298185.

FORMAL EDUCATION Other Voices: Year 1 of our Other Voices project drew to a close with a celebration day at the iPro stadium on 30 June. Students from Derby Moor, Bennerley Fields, Springwell Community College and the Beech Academy came together to share their presentations, participate in drama games, create and perform poetry and enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the stadium. It was certainly a fun packed day with students showing off their impressive communication skills and increasing confidence.
Many thanks must go to the students for their excellent behaviour and contributions, as well as Mash-Up Theatre, Derby County Community Trust and, of course the teachers themselves, for the hard work involved in making the day (and the project!) so successful. We are looking forward to working with everyone again, as well as welcoming new people to our project during 2015/16.
