GEHS Parent News Your Connection to Blazer Nation
THANK YOU SITE COUNCIL:
Site Council is a group of teachers, parents, and students who volunteer their time to support GEHS, USD 231, and most importantly our students. This group spends their time at meetings learning more about our high school, providing insight and guidance, and asking questions about our or-ganization. If you remem-ber it was our Site Council who led the way on creat-ing a student and parent survey inquiring about various aspects of our high school. This accumu-
lation of data over a 2-year time period was helpful. Three years ago our Site Council worked with the City of Gardner regarding 2 intersections of concern - Madison & Poplar and Waverly & 175th.
We are thankful for these outstanding people:
Parents-Melissa Hogue, Mike Daniels, Joel Riggs, Laurie Henricks, Mary Nel-son (President), Donna Goetzmann, Julie Mullin, Patty Fabing (Vice Presi-dent), Jamie Bovitz
Booster Club-Brenda Ahrens, Angela Edstrom
Community Leaders -Janeice Rawles, Dave Drovet-ta (Mayor of Gardner, Don Roberts (Mayor of Edgerton and GEHS Graduate)
Teachers-Brenda Schaefer, Megan Black, Katie Zahner, Brian Davidson
Class Presidents-Jenna Goetzmann, Amy Hurd, Jake McIntire, Stephonn Alcorn
Take the opportunity to express your thanks to these individuals for their dedication and commit-ment to our school district and GEHS.

Boys/Girls State:
Juniors have the oppor-tunity to participate in Boys/Girls State this summer. This week long program gives students the experience of run-ning a state government with other junior repre-sentatives from across the state of Kansas. Students in this program run for office and pass
legislation. This is a great opportunity to learn about govern-ment, develop leader-ship skills and meet other kids from across the state. It looks great on a college applica-tion! Stop by the coun-seling office if you are interested in participat-ing. We can only send a limited number.
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE:
Local scholarship infor-mation is now available to our seniors. Last year our students were awarded more than
$100,000 dollars in scholarship money. Sen-iors should stop by the counseling office for more information.

Your support for the 2013 GEHS Track & Field team is greatly appreciated! In the last 5 years, the Blazer Track and Field teams have finished in the top three at every state championship meet. They have produced over 25 state champions and set three state meet records.
In order to raise funds, the Trail-blazer Track & Field team will once again be offering cypress, cedar, red and brown stained mulch and
