GLOBAL COMMUNICATION PRACTICUM GUIDELINES
1
These are suggested steps and recommended sources to find or build a practicum that will fulfill the requirement for the Global Communication Major. Time that these steps are taken will vary depending on the practicum.
NOTE: Applications for US Department of State must be turned in a year before desired time to leave and you must be a U.S. citizen.
Step 1: € Consider International or Domestic Practicum € Think about what kind of experience you want: study
abroad, internship, humanitarian, other € Choose between Practicum options 1, 2, or 3 (See
attached form for details) € Practicum projects require 135 hours of work, so
plan ahead € Talk Suzann Winn, Academic Advisor about options
Alumni have done for past practica € Talk to Faculty Advisor about your intentions for
your practicum € Talk to Krystn Clark, CHaSS Career Advisor in
Career Services about resources open to you.
Step 2: € Find organizations and agencies for study
abroad/internship/humanitarian trip/other – Set up Accounts/Make profiles
€ Choose a plan A and a plan B (backup) € Learn Application requirements € Second meeting with Faculty Advisor to
make sure practicum ideas fit your needs € Second meeting with Academic Advisor to
resolve questions € Write your Practicum Proposal (when
applicable) € Fill out application € Figure out logistics – passport,
immunizations, visas, international health insurance, room and board, etc.
Step 3: • Start or Leave for practicum
Or • Save money for practicum and leave for
