What is GreenTouch?
• GreenTouch is consortium aiming at reducing the energy consumption in the telecommunication network by a factor of 1000 by 2015. It is a relative and not an absolute diminution (definition given later).
Mission• By 2015, our goal is to deliver the architecture,
specifications and roadmap — and demonstrate key components — needed to reduce energy consumption per user by a factor of 1000 from current levels.
• It was initiated by Bell-labs, research arm of Alcatel-Lucent• It was launched on January 11th 2010• There are 18 founding members: manufacturers (Alcatel-Lucent,
Huawei, Samsung, Freescale), operators (Swisscom, Portugal telecom, Telefonica, Orange, ATT), research institutes (IMEC, CEA-LETI, INRIA) and universities (Melbourne, Stanford, MIT)
• New members have joined: among others, NTT, Vodafone, China Mobile, Korea Telecom, many universities and very recently Broadcom and Fujitsu. At present, there are 35 members .
