The Concentrated Solar Power plant at Ashelim owned by Shikun amp BinuiHoldings Ltd (TASE SKBN) and Spanish concern Abengoa today signed anagreement to buy tens of thousands of thermo-solar receivers from Israelicompany Rioglass Solar Systems The price of the deal is estimated at NIS100 million

The 110-megawatt Concentrated Solar Power plant the ២rst of its kind inIsrael will produce thermo-solar electricity using the parabolic troughmethod This method uses large parabolic mirrors that focus the sunrsquos rayson a receiver with special optical characteristics

Through Rioglassrsquos technology a thermal liquid ២ows through the receiverheated by the sun to a temperature of 400 degrees celsius The hot liquidheats water into steam that drives a turbine to generate electricity

Rioglass Solar Systems general manager Onn Fenig said ldquoOur proprietarytechnology will enable the ២rst of its kind project in Israel generatingldquogreenerrdquo electricity for the statersquos grid As an international company whichpartners in similar projects around the world we feel tremendous pride thatthe main technology which will enable Israelrsquos ២rst solar thermal powerplant will be our technology ndash developed and manufactured in BeitShemesh This ២rst project in Israel where solar thermal technology is usedto generate high voltage electricity is a paramount milestone in the processof shifting from burning polluting fossil fuels to utilizing clean resources inorder to produce a more environmental friendly electricityrdquo

Adv Eliran Furman Micha Tollman and Daniella Milner of Yigal Arnon amp Colaw ២rm represented Rioglass in this deal

In another project the Ketura Sun solar ២eld was connected to Israelrsquoselectricity grid yesterday Ketura Sun is one of Israelrsquos largest solar ២eldswith a production capacity of 40 megawatts and the largest ២eld currentlyconnected to the electricity grid The ២eld is owned by Arava Power and EDFEnergies Nouvelles Israel a subsidiary of the French national powercompany
