GB TARGET FINLAND AFTER

Championship clash with Finland later this month with a successful

training camp and tournament in Italy.

sides, and were

narrowly beaten in the

Head coach Jesper

Holmris said: “It was a

great chance for us to

prepare for the European

Championship qualification

matches against Finland in

three weeks.

“It was also a great

opportunity to play against

a different style of

handball.”

GB opened with a match

against Cassano, who had

stepped in at the last

minute following the

withdrawal of a Hungarian

side.

GB won comfortably 30-

17, with a strong defence

giving the wingers plenty of

scoring opportunities

which they took, with 17

fast-break goals.

The second match

pitted GB against Salerno,

who are tipped to

challenge for the Italian

League title this season,

having signed several

international players.

Salerno won 22-15, but

new GB players Shila

Casey and former Talent

ID players Kathryn Fudge

and Louise Jukes all had

strong performances.

GB took on MGA Wien

– who are the fourth-

ranked team in Austria - in

the semi final, and battled

to a superb 23-16 victory.

GB were clearly up for

this game, and the star of

the game was goalkeeper

Sarah Hargreaves, who

had an outstanding save

ratio of 63 per cent.

And Warrington winger

Holly Lam-Moores was

also in good form, as was

Nina Heglund and Kathryn

While out of action, Priddle

has plenty of time to ponder

his future position in the team.

“I was playing as a pivot,”

he added. “But Dragan wants

me to train as a defence

specialist. So when I get back

into it I will be playing in

defence and not attack. That's

a good focus.

“We’ve been up against it

with the lack of money, but we

don't want to go to the

Olympics and be pushed

over because we wouldn’t

bother going if that was the

case.

“We have three years to

make it as a competitive

team. It is an easy thing to

walk away and say we have

no money and lack this and

that, but it's better to carry on

and say we can show what

we are all about.”

Priddle, a 24-year-old

from Cardiff, has returned

from the Academy in

Denmark to recover from

his operation in his home

town.

“I injured it a while ago

and then had rehab, but

needed to have

injections,” he said. “So I

came back to see if I could

get it sorted out.”

September, as the GB

women’s squad attempt to

qualify for the 2010

European Championship.

The two-leg clash with

Finland begins on

Wednesday, September

23, at the Pirkkola Sports

Hall in Helsinki, with the

return match three days

later on Saturday,

September 26, at the

Echo Arena in Liverpool.
