Members All,
Both state and national conventions are now behind us for this year. Having just returned from the Elks National Convention in Houston, Texas, I fi nd that it has invigorated me with fresh ideas and new spirit for the good works the Elks will do during the bal-ance of our Lodge year. I was also especially pleased to have had the chance to personally meet with Mike Zellen, our new Grand Exalted Ruler, for a few brief minutes.
A huge thank you to all of our members and offi cers who joined us for dinner on Saturday, July 16th to welcome East Central District Vice President, Angelo Cretella, to our Lodge. We had over 100
attendees, and a great time was had by all. We even had an unprecedented and unex-pected visit from our State President, John Harris! Thank you, John, for always being a friend of our Ormond Beach Lodge. A special thank you is in order for all of our volunteers who helped to make the event a great success: Donna MacGregor; Mike DeArmon; Warren & Lizz Queen; John & Jackie Andrews, PERs; Wes & Gin Getchell; Marie Houle; Jack Barger, PER; Patricia Gehring, PER; Derek Hill, PER; Maria DeArmon, PER; Mike Chandler, PDDGER, and Ida Dennison, our chef. Even more accolades must be accorded to our local Girl Scouts Older Girls Committee for helping to serve dinner & dessert. The Girl Scouts were treated to dinner and presented with a $250 donation on behalf of our Lodge for their efforts. Visitation attendees also raised an additional $198 for the girls and their projects during dinner.
Our East Central District Vice President v isitations continue throughout the months of August, September, and October. Please check the Visitation schedule on page 9 of your Bellows for more information. All offi cers should to try to attend a few of these visits, and, of course, our members are cordially encouraged to attend these dinners as Angelo Cretel-la brings the State President’s message to all of the Lodges in the East Central District. My very special thanks to Kent Robinson, our Veterans Committee Chairman, and his committee for their efforts in assisting with the purchase, packaging, and delivery of much-needed personal items, snacks, and gift cards to the veteran residents at the Emory L. Bennett Nursing Home on July 21st as part of our “Christmas in July” Gratitude Grant Project. These wonderful veterans enjoyed meeting with our members and were very grateful for the gifts they received.
As a point of information, please be aware that we have postponed the Golf Tournament previously scheduled for this month on August 27th. Refunds to those who made reserva-tions or sponsorships shall be forthcoming.
This month, it gives me great pleasure to name Donna MacGregor as our Elk of the Month for August. Donna has assisted with several large events this summer, including our recent VP Visitation and a 12-hour day helping Ida in the kitchen with food preparation, as well as serving, and event set-up and clean-up. She has also served as our Friday evening cashier during the summer months. Thanks for all you do, Donna.
Sincerely, and fraternally,
Erika Barger, PERExalted Ruler
