Lake Greenwood, South Carolina February 2012
H A R B O R H A P P E N I N G S
A s daylight extends later and later, conventional wisdom
assumes that we are entering our season, but when
you are fortunate enough to live and work in the
southeast, there is no season or off season, just a busy and a
busier season.
During the next few months, with nature dictating more rounds of golf and more activ-
ity around the lake, our staff is prepared for another great busier season.
Chef Tim is honing his new menu creations and preparing for his usual weekly events
as well as some new ones, such as a Heart Healthy Dinner later this month.
Our crew has begun work on the Men’s Steam Room and we should have you
sweating away in no time! Our first tournament of 2012 is just around the corner. The
Snowball Scramble on February 18th will be a fun, Captain’s Choice format and the
start of a rewarding golf schedule Tommy has planned for 2012.
The new Harbor Happenings newsletter, which has been well received by our Mem-
bership, will be re-invented once again and its pages will reflect the amenity-rich lux-
ury and enthusiasm of our community. It will include more compelling articles, stylish
design and timely features on community events and our lively social scene. Going
forward, it will also be published once monthly, but don’t worry— we are committed to
communicating more than ever with our Members and will do so regularly with target-
ed messages through e-blasts, print and the website.
We invite you to share in the excitement of Grand Harbor’s grand experience.

Improve Your Short Game
To Lower Scores
W e are focusing on the short game in 2012.
With over 60% of your strokes coming from inside of 100 yards, it is essential that you spend a proportionate amount of time on your short game as you practice. You should devote most of your short game practice to putting and chipping. These two shots make up the ma-jority of your short game strokes. At the Patriot, we are going to provide specialized in-struction programs catered to the short game and free wedge-fitting sessions to make sure you have the right combo in your bag.

GN21 System
O ur Golfnet Handicap System has been upgraded to a web-based golf handicapping soft-
ware. The new website address is www.scgolfnetwork.org. You will need to update your
bookmark or favorites in your browser if you frequently access the golfnet website online.
Logging in to Posting Computer at the Golf Shop
Enter your golfer number + the number you would normally hit on the second screen. For most
couples, the male would hit #1 to get into his scoring record and the female would hit #2. For
example, if your number is 4567 and you had to hit 1 on the next screen, your new number is
45671. The Golf Shop staff will be there to assist if you have problems.
Logging in from Home
If you have not previously registered a personal User Name and Password through the South
Carolina Golf Association, you will be set up with your IGN# as your User Name and your last
name as your Password. These may be changed when you first login to the website. The
IGN# is 85691 + your new golfer number. Those of you who have already registered and cre-
ated a profile through the SCGA will remain the same. If you have any problems at home
please call the golf shop and we will provide you with your IGN#.
This new system now allows scores to be posted from home or at the Golf Shop in real-time,
which means scores can be seen immediately after they are posted. “GameTracker” round
statistics allows golfers to track Greens in Regulation, putts, sand saves, etc. A GN21 calendar
informs you of upcoming golf tournaments (calendar will be up-to-date by mid-February after
the Golf Committee Meeting). An internal messaging system allows you to communicate easily
with members. Please take advantage of this new system and what it has to offer.

These Are No Ordinary Cabins
I magine sipping a glass of red wine on the veranda of a mountaintop cabin, while the sun sets over the
ridgelines of Balsam Mountain. As you chat with good friends or family, brushing up on a wonderful day
before heading out for a brisk hike or a cozy dinner at the nearby Boarding House, emotions unexpectedly
well up in you— this is one of the best, most authentic places you’ve ever been to.
What is it about being in the serene wilderness that helps create such per-
fect moments? Is it the freedom to lounge by the fire or read a book on the
porch, take a grandchild fishing in a local stream, gather your friends for a
hiking expedition, or enjoy a glass of wine with a loved one?
Balsam Mountain Preserve was developed as an authentic and highly liva-
ble community, and as you wind your way up the rhododendron-filled pri-
vate drive to the Boarding House Lodge and Cabins, you'll see this philos-
ophy come to life right before your eyes, like nothing you've ever seen be-
fore in the North Carolina mountains.
Taking cues from the past as inspiration for the present, the ten Boarding
House cabins, designed by Historical Concepts, are warm and inviting,
perfect for a relaxing mountain retreat.
Built of antique wood and dry stacked stone, the cabins display superior craftsmanship and meticulous atten-
tion to detail. Sustainable building materials were carefully selected with an eye towards the environment and
energy efficiency. For example, each cabin is heated and cooled using state-of-the-art geothermal technolo-

fireplaces grace both the interior living space and
the large outdoor porch, and at 3,700 feet in ele-
vation the fireplaces get plenty of use, even in the
summertime!
