help you in life’s adventure. If you don’t know what Meal Appeal is all about, stop by and
watch some demonstrations, maybe your club will want to participate next year (DCO
building at 4-H Camp starting at 9:30am).
MARCH 15 – HARFORD COUNTY 4-H HORSE COUNCIL MEETING
Any adult or older 4-H youth interested in promoting the 4-H Horse Project is
welcome to attend. All meetings start at 7:00pm and are held at the Extension

know you will be attending.
The next meeting is March 15 with the following schedule: April 11, May 10,
June 7, July 18, August 2, September 13, October 11 and November 8.
4-H YEARBOOK
Thank you to the 4-H clubs and members who have already turned in ads for the 4-H
Yearbook. We will be accepting ads until March 17.
MID MARCH-JULY 15—ANIMAL HUSBANDRY QUALITY ASSURANCE
TRAINING
The QA program must be completed using Firefox, Chrome or Safari web
browsers. The program is not supported by Internet Explorer. The program
contains two levels, a Junior-aged Level and an Intermediate/Senior-aged Level. The
program automatically directs members to the correct level based on their birthdate.
Site will be available for 2017 from mid-March through July 15. Members may

This event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Forest Lakes Elementary School.
The categories available to you are: Prepared Speech,
Extemporaneous Speech, Radio Spot and Interpretations, which are
divided by age groups - Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Juniors can
also do the 4-H Pledge and Clovers can do Show and Tell. Need

Maryland 4-H Engineering Camp 2017 Friday, Apr. 21 - 6:30pm to Sunday, Apr. 23 – 12noon
The Maryland 4-H Engineering camp has been designed in a way to
promote the teamwork and critical thinking skills that employees need
in today’s job market. Each participant will have the opportunity to
explore engineering projects in-depth. The projects that will be featured
at the 2017 Maryland Engineering camp are: large tractor operation,
lawn tractor, environmental engineering, GPS/GIS mapping, and
welding. Finish the weekend off with a team engineering skills contest.

The 2017 Maryland Sheep Breeders Association Sheep Shearing School will be held in Westminster,
MD on April 14 and 15, 2017 (Friday and Saturday) from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm. Registration must
be made in advance, and accompanied by $100.00 per person fee. The registration deadline is April 1,
2017. In order to maintain an optimal instructor-pupil ratio, participation is limited to 15 people, so be

A skillathon provides youth with the opportunity to blend knowledge and skills
acquired in livestock judging, demonstrations, and care and exhibition of animals
into a single activity. A skillathon competition consists of a series of stations where
youth are tested on their knowledge and abilities related to livestock. Station topics
may include identification (breeds, parts, equipment, meat, wool, or feed);
evaluation/judging (fleeces, live animals, hay); a problem-solving activity; and a
written quiz. All of the stations in this contest will pertain to sheep and goats and
their products.
