APHRS Cardiac Device Therapy Curriculum
Heart Failure and Basics of CRTModule 3J Virtual Reality WorkshopMarch 31- April 1, 2018Evaluation Summary Advanced Technology Center Asia PacificTokyo, Japan
Executive Summary
• 1.5 days comprehensive training on CRT n Tokyo ATC• 15 participants from Asia participated and all of them with implanting CRT experience• Day one included lectures on the CRT concept, implantation and programing skills with
programmer hands-on practice• Day two were all hands-on activities including pig heart dissection and virtual reality
simulation practice of CRT implantation• The first time provided pig heart dissection training in the CRM curriculum, Prof. Igawa
taught the anatomy of the heart which related to device implantation receiving extremely good feedback
• In general, participants would like to spend more time on pig heart dissection. An area for improvement is to see how the dissection practice can be more correlated to the clinical practice of manipulating guiding catheter and fluoroscopic interpretation.
• The programming simulation workshop provided the opportunity for delegates to trouble-shoot CRT device, such as low Bi-V pacing percentage. The stimulating cases can be updated and adding more scenario
• 73% delegates are quite comfortable (or above) with CRT implantation procedure versus 20% prior to the training
• 100% delegates agree they have learnt new skills & techniques about the CRT programming from the programmer hands-on session

How could this workshop model be improved?
• Virtual reality simulation is a very useful workshop, can be arranged more time for practice• More trouble shooting cases• Management of complications.• Need more time for pig heart dissection.• Dissection of pig heart was great. I hope we could have spent more time in this session & has
more time to ask questions.• Already good enough.• Anatomy session was very informative. But the session time was too short. You should
make anatomy session time longer if you could. • Allow each delegate to handle easy to difficult cases.• Very well organized course. Excellent and experienced instructors. Very good location and
venue. More time for device trouble shooting and case examples could be better.• I’d like to handle more time on virtual reality simulator workshop.• I want to have more learning time on anatomy.• The faculty might want to include lectures on the choice of lead and catheters.• The experience was extremely helpful especially for the beginner. The lectures were relevant
and the speakers were very knowledgeable.
