The Hunger Games is one of the most popular juvenile novel by the moment, also becoming
the block buster more of 2012. But theres a lot of difference between the way the movie paints
this story and how do the readers imagine all this world. In this project I will explain the way I
imagine the hunger games world.

Suzanne Collins
Suzanne Collins was born on August 10, 1962 in Hartford, Connecticut. As the daughter of amilitary officer, she and her family here constantly were moving. She attended high school at
the Alabama School of Fine Arts, where she was a Theater Arts major. She graduated from
Indiana University with a double major in Drama and Telecommunications.
Suzannes career began in 1991 as a writer for childrens television shows. She worked on
several television shows for Nickelodeon, including Clarissa Explains it All, The Mystery
Files of Shelby Woo, Little Bear, and Oswald.
She received a Writers guild of America Nomination in animation for co-writing the critically
acclaimed Christmas special Santa, Baby! After meeting childrens author James Proimos
while working on the kids WB show Generation O!, Suzanne was inspi red to write
childrens books herself.
Her inspiration for Gregor the Overlander, the first book of The New York Times best
selling series The Underland Chronicles came from Alice in Wonderland, when she was
thinking about how one was more likely to fall down a manhole than a rabbit hole, and wouldfind something other than a tea party.
Between 2003 and 2007 she wrote the five books of the
Underland Chronicles: Gregor the Overlander, Gregor and
the Prophecy of Bane, Gregor and the Curse of Warmbloods,
Gregor and the Marks of Secrets, and Gregor and the Code of
Claw. During that time, Suzanne also wrote a rhyming
picture book, when Charlie McButton Lost Power.
In September 2008, Scholastic Press released The Hunger
Games, the first book of a trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The
trilogys second book, Catching Fire, was released in
September 2009, and the third book, Mocking jay, was
released on August 24, 2010. Within 14 months, 1.5 million
copies of the first two Hunger Games books were printed in
North America alone.

How does she get inspired to make this
world?
One night she was lying in bed, and she was channel surfing between reality TV programs and
actual war coverage. On one channel there was a group of young people competing and on the
next; there was a group of young people fighting in a war. She was really tried, and the lines
between these stories started to blur in a very unsettling way. That was the moment when
Katnisss story came to her.
Another thing on what she gets inspired this trilogy its when she was a kid, her dad fought in
Vietnam. Even thought her mom tried to protect them, sometimes the TV would be on, and she
would see footage from the war zone. She was little, but she could hear them say on TV
Vietnam, and she knew her dad was there.
But there was so much programming and she worry that they were all getting a little
desensitized to the images on their televisions.
If you were watching a sitcom, that was fine. But there was a real-life tragedy unfolding, you
should not be thinking of yourself as an audience.
Suzanne said in one of her interview that the most difficultpart of writing the story was, When
youre going to write a story like The Hunger Games, you have to accept from the
beginning that youre going to kill characters. Itshorrible thing to do, and its a horrible thing
to write, particularly when you have to take out a character that is vulnerable or young or
someone youve grown to love when you where writing them.

On whats based the trilogy?
Most of the things in this trilogy are based on Roman and Greek stuff; just like names, places,
even the whole story. Hunger Games story is based on the roman myth of Theseus and the
Minotaur.
The myth said that as a punishment for displeasing Crete, Athens periodically had to send seven
youths and seven maidens to Crete, where they were thrown into the labyrinth and devoured by
the Minotaur (a creature with the head of a bull on the body of a man).
The message on this story is: mess with us and well do something worse than kill you, wellkill your children. And the parents sat by apparently powerless to stop it. The cycle doesnt end
until Theseus volunteers to go to the labyrinth, and he kills the Minotaur. In her own way,
Katniss is a futuristic Theseus. But Suzanne didnt wants to do a labyrinth story. So she decided
to write basically an update version of Roman gladiator games, thats another thing on whats
based this trilogy.

I imagine this story like a possible thing, like real life but in kind of future. This is the only
story; I saw the movie before I read any of the books, that I was really convinced to read.
This story is really good, talking about the same world as we know it today but after some
years. This is not difficult to imagine because is our world, even the characters are really easy to
imagine, to think like them because they are so real, only humans, without any power or
supernatural thing, its really different from twilight or harry potter saga.

Katniss arrived to her house after having a hunting day. Her mom and Primrose were waiting
for her to go to the reaping. After Katniss get dress and prepared for the reaping they go to the
town square.
On town square everybody was prepared for the reaping so Katniss and Primrose follow them
so they can get to their places. This was the first year Prim could be selected for the Games
because she had just turned 12 years old.
Both girls take their places with the child of their ages and what Katniss least expected happens,
Prim get chosen for the Games. Katniss step in to take her place by volunteer herself as a
tribute.
The second tribute chosen, a boy, was Peeta Mellark.
On way to the Capitol both tributes, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, meet their mentor,
Haymitch Abernathy, demanding him some advices for the Games.
When they arrived to the Capitol, Peeta and Katniss had an excellent change of image that made
them look phenomenal. Thats why on the annual tribute parade down the Avenue Katniss and
Peeta stand out from the other tributes with flames flicker off their bodies and reflect in their
sparkling eyes.
The next days after the tribute parade the tributes have the chance to train for the Games and the
last day of training each tribute had an individual session with the Gamemakers, in which
Katniss got the heist average because in her individual session she has a rage episode, she
attacked the Gamemakers with an arrow, but there wasnt any wounded.
The next day the interviews continue with Caesar Flickerman were Peeta stole the night by
declaring his love for Katniss, that makes Katniss thought that it was a kind of strategy for the
Games.
Days later the 24 tributes enter to the arena, a forest. At the go signal most of the tributes go
to the bloody battle which was taking place on the cornucopia. Peeta decide to not particpare inthe battle so he run into the forest instead of that, Katniss try to take something around the
cornucopia without getting very close to it, with a bit of luck she takes an orange bag pack, in
consequence a girl from District 2 called Clove attacked her.
Running as fast as she can, Katniss enter to the forest leaving Clove behind the trees.
Dehydrated in the forest, she started getting weak until she found a good source of water, the
lake. When she hydrates again she found one tree, a good place to sleep.
On the tree when she was getting already sleeping, under Katnisss tree pass the Career Tributes
with another person, Peeta. He had allied to the Career Tributes. So Katniss lost trust in every
person on the arena.

Days later, Katniss havent had any confrontation with anybody on the arena thats why the
Gamemakers test her so she can get more close to the other tributes and have a good show. They
started to throw Katniss fireballs so she may confront with another tribute.
She, badly injure because of the fireballs impact she got, got to the place where the Career
Tributes were just like the Gamemakers want.
Even feeling pain she climbed a tree in her desperation because the Career Tributes were
following her. She climbed as high as she could. The Career Tributes were waiting for her under
the tree so she had to stay on the tree.
The next morning Katniss wake up early because she heard one noise on the neighbor tree,
startled she look for the source of the sound and she found a little girl called Rue, the youngest
tribute of the Games. Rue pointed Katniss a tracker jackerss hive that was over Katnisss head.
Rue indicated Katniss that she could throw it over the Career Tributes. Katniss started to
climbed to the tracker jackerss hive, when she arrived she started cutting the tracker jackerss
hive until it separate from the tree.
The hive lay down over the Career Tributes leaving another tribute out of the Games, a girl form
District 1 called Glimmer.
In consequence, the tracker jackers sting Katniss, on her neck, hand and legs, so she faint. Later
when Katniss wake up noticed that she has been sleep for days and that the little girl from
District 11, Rue was taking care of her. Thats when Rue proposed to Katniss to be allies and
she accepted.
They swap provisions and ideas, so they make a plan, to destroy the Career Tributes
provisions. They separate and put their plan to work. Katniss make her part of the plan but Ruedoesnt make it because she get in some problems, when Katniss arrived to her rescue it was
late, one guy from District 1 called Marvel throw a spear through Rues stomach.
Katniss killed Marvel.
Katniss was so sad; she started walking to no way until she climbed one of the trees she has
seen, because she didnt want to be an easy tribute to catch. When she get to the top of the tree
she heard an announcement of the Gamemakers, the rules has change, this time could be two
winners only if both are from the same district. Katniss was so exited so she started to look
Peeta the next day.
In the morning Katniss started looking for Peeta and she found him badly injure. She took him
to a cave and checked his wounds to check them.
In the cave Peeta declare to Katniss that his love for her was real, but Katniss knows that if she
pretended to love him in the same way he do, they will receive food or medicines from sponsors
on silver parachutes. But she started to feel confused about what she feels for Peeta.
The Gamemakers make a new announcement; on the cornucopia would be one bag pack for
each different district left on the Games. Peeta need some medicines so Katniss couldnt see
Peeta die. But Peeta didnt want Katniss to go so she sleep Peeta with a soup and go for the bag
pack.

When she arrived to the cornucopia take the bag pack with the number of her district. Clove
attacked Katniss throwing her to the ground. Tresh take Clove over Katniss and kill her. He
forgives Katnisss life because she helped Rue.
Katniss get back to the cave with Peeta, with the medicines. Both get well, they go out to haunt
when incontinently Peeta on his search of food, he take some berries called nightlock, one of thetributes called foxface (just her nickname) take the same berries and eat ones, in consequence
she died instantly cause they were poison.
Katniss heard a gunshot, which means someone dies. Scared go with Peeta and see the nightlock
on Peetas hands. She took them and she put them and she put them in a bag.
Another tribute out! Bothe, Katniss and Peeta, go to find Cato, the tribute guy from District 2.
They heard a gunshot and Threshs face appeared on the arenas sky so Peeta and Katniss get
the conclusion that Cato maybe killed Tresh.
Both continue Catos searching, without fear of find him, their searching take them to thebiggest source of water in the arena, they leave their stuff so they could rest a little bit until they
see Cato approaching to them running as fast as he can followed by some mutts.
Peeta and Katniss start running behind Cato until they reach the cornucopia and climbed over it.
When Katniss looked at Catos direction she takes by surprise that Cato was taking Peeta by the
neck, threatening her with throwing Peeta to the mutts. Peeta, almost choking, point to Katniss
were to throw the arrow. Katniss, with obedience, throw the arrow on Catos hand. Before he
could react the arrow entered just in the middle of his hand. Peeta release from Catos arm and
throw Cato to the mutts.
On the next day the Gamemakers make a new announcement, they change the rules once again!
This year, as always, could be only one winner. Both, Katniss and Peeta, confused by the
announcement try to find a good solution. After many tries Katniss though that to use the
nightlock berries that killed Foxface would be a good plan. So she proposed to Peeta that both
could eat them and dye together. Peeta agree with her, so he took some nightlock berries. Both
take the nightlock berries to their mouths at the same time until the Gamemakers announce that
both were the winners of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games.
The Capitol took both to their district. On way to District 12, Peeta discovers the false love that
once Katniss mention on the competition. He, disappointed, walked away. He smiles to the
cameras that were waiting for them on District 12.

BOOK vs. MOVIE
Peeta lost his leg in the book, this is one of the details that influence on the next booksand might make the readers disconcerts on the second book. In the movie he did not lost
it. So I give one point to the BOOK.
Katniss lost her hearing on one of her ears; this is mention on the book. This is anotherdetail that influence on the next book and maybe on the next movie. So I give another
point to the BOOK.
On the book says that the mocking jay pin was given to Katniss by Madge, a characterthat is not mention on the movie. In the movie the pin is from Katniss and then she give
it to Prim but when Katniss volunteer as a tribute Prim give to Katniss again like a
lucky charm and its a really cute detail so I give this point to the MOVIE.
On the movie appear some mutts that are really scary but the book ones are reallyterrify. So I give one more point to the BOOK.
Katniss and Peeta only kissed once, on the book they kiss many times and thats reallycute. Another point to the BOOK.
Katniss on the movie look so indifferent with Peeta that you might hate her because heis so lovely with her is really sweet but in the book you are on Katnisss head so you
know that shes confused between Gale and Peeta. So here comes another point to the
BOOK.
Cato die slower in the book because its mention that he had a thin armor so the muttstook longer to kill him, instead in the movie Cato dies almost instantly and that makes it
easier to kill him. So this point is for the MOVIE.
One the movie Gale appears as one of the main characters but in the book hes mentiononly on the begging. So Gales participation is better because it makes more interesting
the movie story. This point goes to the MOVIE.
Peetas dad visit Katniss before the Games (on the book). Thats a really cute detailbecause Peetas dad promise to take care of Prim. So this is another point to theBOOK.
As you can see for me the book is better than the movie, but the movie is really good.
So you can do both, read the book and watch the movie.

Conclusion
Well, I hope you like my project, and these things make you decide to read the whole trilogy
because on my resume I miss many details. And my personal opinion its that the movie its
really good, very adapted to the book, but there are many details that are dismiss on the movie,
some that may influence on the next books, just as I mention on BOOK vs. MOVIE. So read
the whole trilogy, it definitely worth it. You would not regret it!
With nothing else to say, I thank you for waste some of your time to read my grammars final
