We are moving into the last 6 months of the 2015 – 2016
Fiscal Year. The Board and I want to thank you for making the
Banquet a success. There are so many individuals and
businesses that we need to show appreciation. The Honorable
Matt Crain once again served as Emcee and did an exceptional
job welcoming everyone. We are so fortunate to have a team
of volunteers, ambassadors and board members who
delivered a successful banquet to the members.
First United Methodist Church and Pastor Leah Hidde
Gregory provided the venue for our banquet. If you are a First
Methodist Church member thank you. The chamber
appreciates your hospitality. If you are not a member, please
tell one member of a FUMC congregation how much you
appreciate their generosity.
The City of Hillsboro was very helpful as well in providing
tables and chairs to supplement the churches inventory. The
Fire Department delivered the tables and chairs. Wisenbaker
Builder Services and Bossier Dodge assisted by delivering the
loaned items back to Historic City Hall.
It takes so many people to make it a success. Jamie
Siddons coordinated the ambassadors in logistics and menu
planning. Joanne Ozment and Holly Harris created the
beautiful table decorations. Natalie Meeks created special
baskets and provided the gifts for the premium tables.
Jennifer Nowlin and Ada Motherspau assisted with the raffle
as did Matt Thomas, Barry Bailey and Ryan Janek.

The Board wants to thank the business community for making the 94th Annual Chamber of Commerce Awards
Banquet a success. We had 11 Premium Table Sponsors with an attendance of 348. The Silent Auction, Live
Auction, Raffle, and Table Sponsorships generated over $22,000 in revenue -- the chamber will benefit $12,000+
from the fundraiser. When we take a snapshot of banquets from 2003 to present this was the third most
successful banquet fundraiser during that period.
The Board, Ambassadors and business community are to be commended for their hard work. Isn’t it amazing
what we can accomplish when we work together?

Hill Regional Hospital
Welcomes New General
Surgeon Hill County Surgical Services
and Hill Regional Hospital are
excited to welcome our new full
time board certified General
Surgeon, Dr. Craig Thompson. Dr. Thompson
comes to us with 17 years of experience from
Maine where he has been in private practice for
the last six years at a small community hospital.
Dr. Thompson graduated medical school and
completed his residency in general surgery
from Louisiana State University in New
Orleans, Louisiana. He joins the staff at Hill
County Surgical Services starting April 4, 2016
and specializes in all areas of general surgery
including breast and skin cancers. Preventive
care colonoscopies and endoscopies are also
available with Dr. Thompson. Dr. Thompson
performs minimally invasive surgical
procedures; which means smaller scars, less
pain, and faster healing times compared to
traditional surgery.
With him, Dr. Thompson brings his wife of 20
years, Jeanne, and their 2 teenage sons. Dr.
Thompson’s philosophy of care fits right in with
our community. “I want the people of Hill
County to know that smaller hospitals can
sometimes do things better than the big cities.
You can be taken care of by people that know
you and your family and that can be a real
source of comfort.” He continued, “There’s
always a need for the bigger hospitals and the
specialists there, but good safe surgical access
is around the corner at Hill Regional Hospital.”

Two of Hill County’s finest community oriented organizations, Hill County Paw Pals and Hillsboro Police Department Community Outreach Programs, have joined together again to launch their ninth annual “Waggin’ Trail Bike Ride” on Saturday, May 7th, 2016. The event is planned with five routes (94, 65, 41, 27, and 10 mile routes) to meet the needs of the avid cyclists as well as the casual rider. Registration begins at 7:30am with staggered starts beginning at 9:00am at building 70, Hill College, 112 Lamar Dr. Hillsboro, Texas. Hillsboro is conveniently located 56 miles south of Dallas/Fort Worth or 32 miles north of Waco on I-35. Hill College is just off I35 in Hillsboro. The planned routes of Waggin’ Trail Bike Ride offer cyclists a unique tour of Central Texas. Hill County is 986 square miles of rural area that is joined together with miles and miles of splendid paved farm-to-market roads. With a combined population of only 33,000, Hill County offers open spaces. On many areas of the bike ride, one can see for miles around the splendid beauty of open land, flowing creeks, pastures with cattle and horses grazing, farmers’ cultivated fields, and proud, rural communities. The varied routes all explore the back roads of Hill County and go through communities that were established during the 1850’s when Hill County was created and named after Dr. George W. Hill, a settler who served as a congressman and Secretary of War for the Republic of Texas.
Event details and schedule When: May 7th, 2016 Where: Start/Finish at building 70, Hill College, 112 Lamar Dr., Hillsboro, Texas, 76645 Time: Registration - 07:30am, Stagger start at 09:00am Routes: 94, 65, 41, 27 mile routes.
