Ancient History• The first model aircraft found to date was
unearthed during an Egyptian excavation in 1898, which they dated back to 200 BCE This model airplane measures 6 inches long and has wings and what is
considered today to be the fuselage
• Ancient Greek philosopher Archytas built a model airplane that was said to have flown approximately 200 meters, or 219 yards Archytas named this model aircraft “the pigeon” as its design was
shaped like a bird and fueled by steam
Renaissance History• Leonardo Da Vinci, a renaissance philosopher,
designed one of the earliest blueprints of a helicopter and an airplane. His early helicopter model is called the “Aerial Screw,” and is marveled
upon for its resemblance to a modern helicopter.
The Wright Brothers• The first actual flight in an airplane was flown by
Wilbur and Orville Wright. Soon after, thousands of children everywhere were building model airplanes.
Model Airplanes and the Military
• After a boom in the aircraft industry, Military engineers discovered the benefits of using model airplanes when initially designing aircraft for battle.
Modern Model Airplanes
• Today, commercial airliners use model airplanes as a marketing tool. Advancements in technology have allowed us to create remote-controlled aircrafts, that come in every size, shape, and color imaginable.
