Pentecost Sunday
W elcome! We are glad you are here to join us in worship in the celebration of the Eucharist (Mass). At
the Eucharist, the Church comes together to hear the Word of the Lord, to pray for the world's needs, to
offer the sacrifice of the Cross in praise and thanks to God, to receive Christ Jesus in communion, and then
to be sent forth in the Spirit as disciples of the Gospel. If you are not familiar with the Mass, the Order of the Mass can
be found on pages 3-29 of the Breaking Bread hymnal. We call particular attention to the text of the Gloria and the
Nicene Creed located on the inside cover. The scripture (Bible) readings for today's Mass can be found on pages 175.

Welcoming a Priest on Health Leave to the Rectory
Fr. Scott has welcomed Fr. Ron St. Pierre to live at the rectory in Amesbury during a recently granted three-month health leave. Fr. Ron’s immediate past assignment was as Parochial Vicar for the three
parishes in the Billerica Collaborative. He served also as Pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Tyngsborough, MA for nineteen years. Though Fr. Ron's primary work for this three months is to recuperate and restore his health, he has indicated a willingness to assist with some Masses when his health allows. Please make sure to welcome Fr. Ron to our parishes if and when you have the chance to meet him.

Congratulations to the Christuk Family!
The Knights of Columbus Council 16437 and the entire Start of the Sea Parish applaud the Christuk Family ( Chris, Amy, Carson, Connor & Catherine) on their being honored with the Knights of Columbus "Family of the Season Award". The Knights of Columbus "Family of the Season" program promotes and supports the development of strong and vibrant Christian families by recognizing the good work being done everyday by families such as the Christuk Family. These families exhibit strong ties of love and faith, exemplifying the type of traditional Catholic family values so important in our daily lives and in the world today. Additionally, their contributions as a family in participating and supporting parish activities and programs cannot be understated. The Knights of Columbus and the entire Star of the Sea community could not be more proud of this family and hope you will join us in CONGRATULATING the Christuk family on their receiving this award.
From Fr. Scott: June 2019 will mark three anniversaries for us! • First anniversary of being a one priest, two parishes, three churches collaborative.
• Third anniversary of the implementation of our local pastoral plan.
• Fifth anniversary of our partnership and pastor and parishes in service of the Gospel and the New Evangelization.
First, June 2019 is our first anniversary of being a one priest, two parishes, three churches collaborative. The
biggest change related to this change was the creation of a Mass schedule that was “doable” by one priest. We
are blessed to have three wonderful weekend assistants, Fathers Copeland, O’Brien, and Curry. In addition, Fr.
Ron St. Pierre will be with us June through August 2019 for a health leave and may be able to offer some
assistance. Their availability dictates when they can assist us. I am aware of the difficulties created by the
schedule. I know that some people are not happy with it. I am grateful to those who prioritize weekly
participation in the Mass and will make the sacrifices necessary to do so, even when it means participating in
the Mass at a time which may not be most convenient for them and in a church building which is not their
home church. Between Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening, our parishes and the parishes in Newburyport,
West Newbury, and Merrimac offer 13 celebrations of the Eucharist, all within a relatively small geographic
region. Father Tim and I have an agreement that when one of the parishes receives an offertory envelope from
a different parish, we return it to the designated parish. Given the lack of a viable alternative that is doable by
one priest and takes into account the seating capacity of our church buildings, we will continue with the same
Mass schedule.
Second, June 2019 marks the third anniversary of the implementation of our local pastoral plan. During these
three years, we have prioritized hospitality, family-centered faith formation, creating a culture of vocations, and
engaging in our communities through Christians service and social justice. The Pastoral Council has spent this
year meeting with a variety of teams and ministries involved with the implementation of the pastoral plan to
assess its implementation. The Pastoral Council, Finance Councils, and pastoral plan implementation leadership
teams gathered on June 2 to celebrate the blessings, joys, and successes, share the challenges, and look to the
future. We will work on “bridge” plan for 2019-2020 to give us time to create a three year pastoral plan for
2020-2023.
Third, June 2019 is the fifth anniversary of our partnership as pastor and parishes in service of the Gospel and
the New Evangelization. For Holy Family Parish, this is the longest time with the same pastor in years. For Star
of the Sea Parish, I don’t think we’ll come close to 36 years that Fr. Morgan was pastor! I look forward to the
future of these two distinct parishes united by a common mission – to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Meet Father Carignan Rouse
Father Carignan Rouse was born in Tallahassee, Florida, baptized Catholic as an infant and grew up attending Mass and Sunday school. He began to invest in his faith when he was 15, shortly after he was confirmed in the Catholic Church. He began to study the Bible, Church history, and the works of mystics and spiritual writers. Father Rouse was influenced by priest authors, such as Athanasius of Alexandria, Francois de Sales, and John Henry Newman.
He also began to receive the sacraments more often. While growing in knowledge of the faith and devotion to the sacraments, he began to think about the vocation to the priesthood. He said, "Frequenting the sacraments helped to develop a sacramental consciousness and that, I think, bore the fruit of priestly vocation,"
He entered the seminary after graduating from high school. He was an Oratorian brother at the Toronto Oratory for eight years before coming to St. John's Seminary.
Father Rouse said prayer helps seminarians "assess the value" of their experiences in the seminary. "When prayer (inasmuch as it can be a discipline) becomes habitual, it becomes a part of your life that you feel dependent upon to see where and how God is drawing us to a life of charity. God uses instruments to make his paths known to us, but prayer makes the instruments as divinely posited better known to us," he said. Father Rouse will be a chaplain for the Air Force. He looks forward to young-adult ministry and working with families. His patron saint is St. George, who is his confirmation saint and the patron of military personnel. He also counted on St. Philip Neri among the people who interceded for him and encouraged him by his saintly example.
Please remember in your prayers those who are sick :
May the Spirit of Christ renew the gift of life within them and bring healing to their minds, body and spirit.

Replacing the Holy Family Parish Hall Roof
Work to replace the Holy Family Parish Hall roof began this past week. This project is being funded by the generous bequest left by (Marjorie) Gail Watson, who died on July 2, 2017. In your kindness, please remember Gail, and all deceased benefactors of the parish in your prayers. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Gail's generous gift to the parish was possible because she remembered us when planning her estate. If you would like to reflect on the impact of the parish on your life and consider including Holy Family Parish in your own estate planning, please contact Fr. Scott.
