Holiday Matching Gift ChallengeThe Horses Need You and Together We Can Make Miracles
The end of 2012 once again finds HPAF in a precarious financial situation, but thingscan turn around quickly with your help. We are again blessed to have a matching giftoffered through the end of December by the same amazing friend who has offeredother matching gifts over the past two years. Hay will be more expensive this year dueto the heavy rains this past summer and the young horses all require continued trainingto become more adoptable. Horses have been returned from adopters and new horsescome to our attention regularly that need to be rescued from starvation, neglect andabandonment, so the need for HPAF’s services continues to be great. We are so gratefulfor all of you who make the rescue of these deserving horses possible. Because ofyou, lives are changed forever and innocent horses are removed from suffering andgiven a new lease on life.

Congratulations On Your Adoption!
Dear Morgan,
Your little girl is soaking up the cool weather up here. Hannah
has been a dream come true. She loves the mountains and
handles them like she was born here. Gets along with anyone I
put her with and is pleasant on the trails. Very brave going over
small bridges and through scary tunnels. She is very sure that
those huge boulders are horse eaters, but trusts me enough to
go by with a sideways look! She is doing very well under saddle
and was a true super star at a clinic I went to. Picking up her leads
very well and is getting slower and more balanced by the day!
Thank you again for trusting me with her!Hannah and Linda

~ Scarlet 1975 - 2012 ~HPAF mourns the passing of Scarlet, the Matriarch and Ambassador of thefarm. Scarlet came to HPAF emaciated in 2005 at age 30 after being in thesame home for 21 years. Scarlet was the most intelligent horse we have evermet. She understood what we said. If you asked her to go to her stall, shewould. All new volunteers who had no experience with horses could safely gointo Scarlet’s stall and groom her. She greeted visitors and followed folks aroundthe farm on tours hoping for a scratch. She was dearly loved and the farm isempty without her. Thank you to Michael Nuzzo for sponsoring Scarlet since2010.

Thank you to Suzanne Stuart of Everglades Arabians for fostering the Thoroughbredmare First Patti who was returned from an adopter. First Patti is another unwantedThoroughbred broodmare no longer useful for producing foals. These mares are some ofthe most difficult horses to find homes for as many have not been ridden in over a decadeand many have never been trained under saddle. Thank you Suzanne for making itpossible for Patti to get another chance to find a permanent home.
Welcome Madge Gunia to the HPAF Board of DirectorsMadge is a lifelong Arabian enthusiast and a longtime supporter of HPAF. Madge
adopted Tsultaya in 2006 and has given her a home for life. We are so grateful to
Madge for her many donations over the years of her time, talent,

HPAF is pleased to announce the addition
of Anya Holst and Sami Namenyi to the HPAF TeamAnja started as a student of Parelli Natural Horsemanship in 2000, became a ParelliProfessional in 2004 and taught the Parelli program until 2010. Her skills include coltstarting, foal imprinting, working with difficult horses, bridless riding, was featured on aParelli Savvy Club DVD in December 2007, and was a member of the Savvy Team onseveral tour stops with the Parelli’s. She had the honor of riding 6 lessons with worldrenowned Dressage Master Walter Zettl by invitation from Linda Parelli. During 2008through 2011, Anja started two 3 year old homebred Danish Warmbloods under saddleand both are well on their way to becoming nice dressage horses. In 2011, Anja beganto seek more knowledge about dressage and found herself at a clinic in New Mexico whereshe had the pleasure of learning from Mary Wanless. Mary is all about how the rideraffects the horse while sitting on its back, and if the rider is ‘correct’, the rider can affectthe horse in such a way that the horse will be able to lift his back, get ‘round’, and becollected with minimal effort. Anja was so eager to learn more that she moved to Ohio tosudy with one of Mary’s certified teachers. That is where she met Sami Namenyi. Sami isa talented rider that had been learning Mary’s techniques for 3 years. Anja and Sami hadtwo horses involved in a research project about posture and self carriage with Dr. NorelleStubbs, and that’s where they were introduced to Equicore Concepts. Equicore Conceptsuses a saddle pad fitted with large elastic bands that go under the belly and around thehind end of the horse that help the horse with body awareness and to learn to use thecore stabilizing muscles of his body. Anja and Sami have been using this system with theHPAF horses with amazing results. With their expertise, professionalism and horseman-ship, we are looking forward to our horses becoming better trained, and therefore, moreadoptable. Please feel free to call us about coming out to the farm to watch the trainingin the mornings from 8am to noon any day except Monday.
Sami and Romeo
Please join us for an Open HouseFeaturing Anja and Sami
on Saturday, January 12, February 9, and March 9, 2013
from at 10am till noonThey will demonstrate and explain how they are helping the HPAF horses
become better trained and better partners for potential adoptors.
