Download - How did you attract/address your audience?
There are various techniques I used to attract the attention
of the audience in my product.
Initially, I created a survey on surveymonkey.com This
allowed me to establish what music and features my
audience wanted.
From my survey I found out that the average age of people that I surveyed was 18. The reason people bought the
magazines was for the in depth articles on their favourite topics, also
if the product is of a suitable price.House and Hip-Hop were people’s
favourite genre of music and the most popular social media sites were
Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
People stated in the survey that they enjoyed seeing
their favourite artists on the magazines they want to
purchase. I ensured that a suitable amount of artists were on the front cover of the magazine in order to
attract the audience. Disclosure and Bondax were the most favoured
artist along with Skream. These artists were placed on the front cover article
list.
I addressed the audience in terms of price as I made the
magazine reasonably inexpensive. This would also increase the number of sales
as more people would feel inclined to purchase the product. I feel £1.49 is a
suitable price for this magazine.
Social Media is a large part of the lives of my audience so I
made sure to incorporate high uses of Twitter, Instagram and
Facebook in my product. Interegrated with the internet,
my magazine will be widespread and its existence would spread further than if it
was a standalone isolated print based product.
A free CD/EP was a favoured part of a magazine when I was doing primary research. I was sure to include this in my front
cover. I highlighted it with a puff and buzzword to add
further emphasis.
My focus group allowed me to find out what to improve on
AFTER the construction of the magazine. This then again,
added more information into how to tailor the product exactly
to what the audience want.
I made sure to include a main image that the audience will instantly connect with. A DJ with headphones and a turn table will be understood and
easily recognised. Dark backgrounds yet bright
foreground allowed the viewer to understand the clubbing
aspect of the product.
Again on the contents page I ensured to use club images
with bright colours and clothing brands that will be
easily recognised by the audience. From my research, Fred Perry and Nike were the
two favoured brands so I made sure to include this on
the contents page in the models clothing.
Similarly with the double page spread I made direct address a major feature. This was due to it being
absent on the front cover. Again, hairstyles, pose and clothing was easily
recognised and this furthermore added to the audience understanding
of genre and expectations in the magazine. An in depth article was used
which is what they expected from the start.
