How The
Van de GraaffGeneratorWork?
A Van de Graaff generator is an electrostatic generator which uses a moving belt to accumulate very high electrostatically stable voltages on a hollow metal globe on the top of the stand.
>>
The friction between belt side and lower roller will give negative electric charge at belt side. While the friction between belt side and upper roller (metal) will give positive electric charge at belt side.
How the
Lighteninghappen?
Lightning: an atmospheric discharge of electricity accompanied by thunder, which typically occurs during thunderstorms, and sometimes during volcanic eruptions or dust storms
>>When the electric field becomes strong enough, an electrical discharge (the bolt of lightning) occurs within clouds or between clouds and the ground.
During the strike, successive portions of air become a conductive discharge channel as the electrons and positive ions of air molecules are pulled away from each other and forced to flow in opposite directions
Why the
Fuel Tankis Given a Piece of Metal that connected to the ground?
The metal in the fuel tank is used to reduce the risk of blow that is caused by spark that is produced by the difference of potentials
