Dubuque, IA. It does seem like a bit of
an oxymoron to our Wisconsin and
Minnesota readers, but Clare Leis has
found a place of beauty to call her
home away from home. Mom and
Dad Leis have visited twice and she has
traveled home all of once. That would
seem to point toward her settling into
her first year at college rather well. If
you have never ventured to Dubuque,
IA it is worth a day trip or more. The
Mississippi River, bridges, Mines of
Spain, Bald Eagles, and the Fenelon
Place Elevator are just a few of the sites.
She is nearing the end of her first
semester and will gleefully put her Stats
and Public Speaking classes behind her.
It is not a surprise that she has many, many friends, but Sarah, Nadia and
Rachel with the addition of Clare make
up what is affectionately known as the
Fantastic Four at Loras College in
Dubuque.
Last year was of course her senior
year. She sat the bench for most of
basketball as she broke her collarbone
early in the season. The graduation and
party were great fun with friends Kelly
and Lyle taking all of the stress out of
the food preparation. Thank you!
Camp Gray was Clares home away
from home this past summer. She was
not yet old enough to be a counselor, but
was able to work full time as kitchen
staff. She greatly enjoyed her summer
at camp and shared a room with her
sister Kateri. Will she be spending next
summer at Camp Gray? That is very
likely. When Clare is home she always
makes time for the Sanders Sisters
and their parents too!
Clares address is:
Quick Trip NorthThief River Falls, MN. It was a quickbut joyful trip when the Leis Family
traveled north for the Dana and Grant
Spears wedding in July. A beautiful
wedding dayspent with family we do not
see often enough. Congrats Dana &Grant!
Cindy with Uncles Jimmy and Albert on that day.
New England, USA. Life can get busyand sometimes months can pass beforefriends who live minutes apart find time for ahike and conversation. Whether it is Hixon
Forest in LaCrosse or Mt. Mansfield and Mt.
Washington Tom enjoys every minute ofthe conversation and the antics of hikingwith Brother Smith. It is good to havefriends that you aspire to be like.
Milwaukee, WI. This is a very specialyear in the Leis Family as the first Leis
Lady graduated from college. Kateri
crossed the stage on December 16, 2012
in cap, gown and stole. She graduated
Magna Cum Laude with a major in
Elementary Education, a major in Math-
ematics and a minor in Spanish. She is
a few short weeks from finishing her
student teaching in a grade 3 classroom
for a Milwaukee public school located
in a Spanish speaking neighborhood.
This past summer she worked atCamp Gray primarily as the nanny for
the Hoeben Family
children. Nothing
brings a smile to
Kateris face faster
than the mention of
Andrew, Mary and
Joshua Hoeben.
Now that school
is done Kateri will
likely spend more
time with a man named Brad (she has
been smiling quite a bit over him latelyalso) work on her resume, substitute
teach, prepare for Rachel and Joshs
wedding (maid of honor), and nanny for
the Hoeben Family this summer.
Kateri plans to stay in Milwaukee sec-
ond semester and continue to live at the
Catholic Womens House. She shares
this home with five
other faith-filled
women. This house
is two doors away
from the Catholic
Mens House whereBrad lives.

Cashton, WI. 2012 was a year that
found Tom increasing his weekly miles.
He joined a running club in Sparta, participated in a 200+ mile Ragnar relay
and managed to finish three marathons
in less than four hours. By October his
feet were screaming ENOUGH! Phys-
ical therapy and podiatry visits are
filling up his date book as the year
draws to a close. This is frustrating and
a bit scary as he is not ready to kiss
marathon running goodbye.
When not running in 2012 he could
be found mowing the lawn (Clare moved
June 1), expanding flowerbeds and plant-
ing perennials. He is still teaching atSparta Middle School, working with
students in Book Club before school,
tutors students after school and helps
high school students with credit
recovery in summer school!

Sister Teresa Maria MovesWildwod, MO. Sister Teresa Maria (Erin)
is currently doing a six-month mission
assignment in Wildwood, MO. She is
living in a small convent with three
other sisters and working in a large Cath-
olic grade school.
Her family visited
her at school in
October and it was
obvious how wellliked she was by
staff and students
there. This assign-
ment will end in
February when she
returns to the Mother House in Alton, IL.
In February she will be helping to
facilitate a vocations event at the
convent in LaCrosse and also attending
her parents 25th
wedding anniversary
celebration! It will be a small but very
special event with the Leis Ladies
finding their way home from St. Louis,Milwaukee and Dubuque for this day.
Many prayers of thanksgiving have
been said.
In August Sister Teresa Maria will
make FirstProfession. She will get a
black veil and crucifix to wear as part of
this event. This is a step toward final
vows years down the road. We look
forward to sharing this important day
with her. We expect she will be in
Alton, IL in 2013.Sr. Teresa Mariasaddress thisChristmas:
Humblehills, WI. Those who know
Cindy realize that if she wants to know
how to do something she will figure it
outlike knitting. Since the last editionshe has made socks, hats, scarves, wash
clothes and a sweater for Erin! She
even belongs to a group of knitters in
Sparta known as: The Knitwits!
After 24 years in the area of Critical
Care nursing Cindy made a career
move. Still at Gundersen Lutheren in
LaCrosse, but now is the nurse educator
for the Behavioral Health Unit. She is
extremely pleased with this career move
and will have a new office in a new
building this February.
Cindy, like Tom, looks forward toeach visit they have with their daugh-
ters, but neither have suffered any ill
effects of Empty Nest to date. They
will both tell you that they feel very
blessed to have three amazing daughters.
