The news and ideas magazine for the Agents of Liberty National
LNL
“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” – Roald Dahl
As humans, we are inclined to hold certain beliefs throughout our lives. As individuals, those beliefs vary widely. Many of us believe in God or a higher power; in a code of ethics or a way of life; in scientific theories; or in our families, loved ones, and friends. These beliefs mold us, shape us, and guide us, and they are essential components of who we are and what we do. Unfortunately, something that should be universally believed in isn’t always on everyone’s list, and that’s the belief in oneself.
While I was considering what theme I wanted LNL to focus on in 2014, I knew I wanted to continue to drive home the importance of confidence, hard work, and taking charge in order to find new success and accomplish new things. I reflected on my own experience as an Agent and what
helped me succeed, even through my most difficult times – especially through my most difficult times. Looking back, I’m positive that the driving force behind any success I experienced was the certainty I had in my abilities and in my future. I surely didn’t have the experience and skills a lot of my peers did, so I had to rely on something else to bolster my career. My conviction was the fuel to my fire, and it is the reason I am where I am today.
I want to stress how essential it is to believe not only in yourself, but also in what you can achieve by grabbing hold of Liberty National’s Opportunity of a Lifetime. I want you to abandon any doubt, any reservations, and any skepticism you may have and replace your disbelief with confidence. I want you to open your eyes to the immense possibilities LNL has for you. In 2014, I want you to wake up 365 days in a row saying, “I believe”.
Ask yourself what it is you’ve always wanted to achieve in your career. An annual trip to Convention? A successful team? Your own Agency? Whatever great vision that appears in your mind’s eye can truly become a reality if you are willing to see that vision as more than a possibility. See it as your future! And then get to work on making it happen.
I’m sure you were all told of the importance of believing in yourself from your parents, teachers, or other mentors. Maybe you even heard it too much, making the message lose some of its impact. But I want to remind you of just how vital belief is to your success in all aspects of your life. It is only through unwavering belief and confidence – along with hard work – that goals can be met and dreams can come true. I’m willing to bet the vast majority of the world’s great achievers overcame their obstacles by their strong beliefs, even when the cards weren’t stacked in their favor. Belief
has carried people beyond the ordinary into the extraordinary. It has been the foundation of scientific discoveries, gold medals, and historical movements and changes. It has made people transform their lives, and it has seen them through their most trying times. Belief is one of the greatest and most powerful things in this world, and it can profoundly impact your life … if you’re willing to embrace it.
This is an exciting time for Liberty National. We are a Company that has thrived for more than a century, and 113 years after our inception, we are making our way to an entirely new level of success. If you want to be a part of this progress while advancing your career, then take the first, most crucial step and say those two important words.
I BELIEVE … do you?

I Know I Believe!
Jorge ArzateLiberty National Director
During the last 13 years I’ve been in the insurance industry, I’ve seen countless lives changed. The Opportunity of a Lifetime Liberty National offers is not only the opportunity of unlimited income, but an opportunity to believe in oneself and accomplish incredible goals. During the Fall Agency Owner Meeting, our CEO Roger Smith unveiled the ‘I Believe’ theme for 2014. The theme stirred up a lot of questions and thoughts for me.
As we approach the end of 2013, we begin to make plans for 2014. We take time to set our goals and make resolutions for the upcoming year. As many of us look back and reflect on the past, we measure ourselves against the previous goals we accomplished and the goals we didn’t reach. This process of reflection brings to mind an essential question: What makes a person believe they can accomplish their goals and then actually do everything possible to accomplish them?
It’s a question we toss around frequently during our executive meetings. From my observation, I’ve noticed there’s one thing most hardworking people have in common, and that’s conviction. Without conviction, belief diminishes, and you might as well pack your bags and go home.
When I was in the United States Coast Guard, I saw how someone with conviction could go from ordinary to extraordinary. Do you have conviction to be as successful as your Liberty National leaders? What are your convictions? What are your beliefs?
In The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader, author and leadership expert John Maxwell tells us “…ordinary people become extraordinary when they’re fired up with conviction”.
People with conviction and belief see things others don’t, and therefore perform in ways faithless people don’t understand. They take a system, improve it, and deliver results. Those with conviction push onward, engage, fight, and overcome obstacles. What about you? Do people see that same conviction in you, or do they see a faithless person?
One of the reasons I decided to join Liberty National was my belief in Roger Smith. I’ve been a Director for several years now and the last thing I want is for people to only respect what I did in the past. I want everyone to respect me for the belief and burning desire I have to become the CEO of a Torchmark Company. You can bet I’ll work like no one else to get there, and I’ll bring others to the top with me. You better believe it!
I think you’ll agree with me when I say there are three types of people in this world:
1. Those who can see what needs to happen.
2. Those who can make it happen.
3. Those who can make things happen when it really counts.
Which type of person are you? Take time to analyze yourself and determine which type of person and leader you are. Make the adjustments required to ensure success! We learn from those who have paved the road before us and given us the confidence we need to accomplish big dreams. Success starts when you say “I Believe” and then execute your beliefs.
I believe 2014 is going to be one of the best years yet for Liberty National. Everyone is ready for it. When everyone is working collectively towards one goal, big things really happen!
Success starts when you say “I Believe” and then execute your beliefs.

THE LAW OF INTENTIONALITY
I believe torch December 2013 - 11
1From John Maxwell’s The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth
“If you want to reach your potential and become the person you were created to be, you must do much more than just experience life and hope you learn what you need along the way. You must go out of your way to seize growth opportunities as if your future depends on it. Why? Because it does. Growth doesn’t just happen — not for me, not for you, not for anybody. You have to go after it!” - John Maxwell
Ask yourself three questions:1. Where do I want to go in life?
2. What direction do I want to go?
3. What’s the farthest I can imagine going?
Your answers can start you on your personal journey of growth.
Remember, you don’t improve your life by simply living it; you have to be intentional about how you live it and invest time and effort in yourself. You become your best when you give your best.
• Get over the fear of making mistakes.
• Become comfortable being out of your comfort zone.
• Focus on personal growth, and you will grow and reach your goals too.
• Whatever you need to do, just do it! Motivation to continue the process will follow.
• Personal growth is not quick or easy, but it is totally worth the effort.
• Don’t put growth on the back burner. Make intentional growth a priority NOW!
Liberty National provides you with the tools you need to implement your personal growth process and make that process last a lifetime. Do you believe in yourself and your potential enough to make it happen? Accept the challenge NOW! Begin your process of personal growth today and become the person you are meant to be!

I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT! DO YOU BELIEVE?I’m excited about Liberty National’s official Company theme for 2014, and I am proud to accept it as my own. ‘I Believe’ is full of possibilities and potential we all can embrace. Here’s what I believe:
• You have an incredible opportunity to protect people by providing needed coverage for individuals and families.
• Liberty National has the training, systems, and technology in place to help you reach production goals that surpass anything you have achieved so far.
• Each and every one of you as Agents, Supervising Agents, Agency Directors, and Agency Owners has the potential to overcome obstacles, grow financially, and achieve greatness.
• Liberty National offers unlimited growth opportunities and recruiting and training systems to make your Agencies unstoppable!
• You can push yourselves to achieve incredible goals.
• Nothing can hold you back!
• With your help, Liberty National will achieve substantial growth in 2014.
The end of the year is a time to consider what we have achieved that year and what we want to achieve in the coming year. Granted, we got off to a slow start in 2013 and did not achieve the degree of success we wanted, but we still have much to be proud of. Many of you had an excellent year in terms of recruiting, training, and production. Those results should give you greater impetus to achieve even more in 2014. I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT. DO YOU BELIEVE?
Agency Owners and team members helped Liberty National grow and implement new systems in 2013. When I look back on our successes, it makes me anticipate this time next year when I can review our increase in production, the addition of new offices in places where Liberty National had never been, the increase in our middle management, and the significant impact those individuals have on our bottom line. This is a joint effort, because together is the only way we will achieve the goals we have put in place as individuals and as a Company. Agency Owners, Agency Directors, Supervising Agents, and Agents - it’s up to you. I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT. DO YOU BELIEVE?
With 2014 quickly approaching, it’s time to set your personal goals as well as your Agency goals for the coming year. This is the time to establish your ‘I believe’ number. Visualize where you want to be in 2014. Decide how you can specifically help your Agency evolve to create financial success for everyone. Determine how you can best protect hardworking families across this county and provide the ‘Opportunity of a Lifetime’ to the communities you serve. I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT. DO YOU BELIEVE?
You are all Agency builders, whether Agency Owners, Agency Directors, Supervising Agents, or Agents. Your goal is to help take your Agency and your team members to the next level of success. Clear expectations, coupled with inspection and accountability will give you the desired result … growth like you have never experienced before. I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT. DO YOU BELIEVE?
How can you create a spectacular 2014? Think BIG and you can achieve BIG! Believe in yourself, your Agency, and Liberty National. Get together and plan how you can make 2014 the best year of your life. Agree on the number of codes you must have each month, the number of new Agents needed each week to get those codes, the number of promotions you want in the first quarter of 2014, the number of submitting Agents you need to contribute to your Agency’s grow month to month, who is training the Agents, on what systems they’re being trained, etc. Make sure everyone in your Agency is fully aware of the goals and objectives you’ve agreed upon and the specific actions necessary to successfully meet those goals. Clearly communicate that personal accountability will be the foundation of everyone’s success. Believe in your team and believe in yourself and put a plan together to create an EPIC year for your Agency. I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT. DO YOU BELIEVE?
I believe we will have a sensational 2014 at Liberty National. I believe we have the systems in place to make it happen and the desire to win. Above all, I BELIEVE IN YOU!
