IELTSThe IELTS (International English
language testing system) is amulti- level exam designed to
assess you on your ability to useEnglish in a work or study setting.
The IELTS is recognised byuniversities & work agencies in
New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, UKand Canada. There are two types of
IELTS exams:
Academic The academic is a technical type
of exam. It is recommended to
those who are interested in
attending a British university or
taking part in a master's degree
or PHD programme.
General trainingThe General is suitable for
those who want to attend a
school (not university) or work
abroad or for those who want
to emigrate to Australia, New
Zealand or the UK.
WHAT IS IELTS?InformationThe IELTS is a multi-level exam which
consists of four sections. The score
ranges from 1 to 9. Most universities
require a 6 or 7 (equivalent B2/C1).
Depending on whether you have
chosen the Academic or General:
reading and writing are more difficult
on the Academic, since the candidate
must be capable of producing a level
suitable for university. Unlike the
Cambridge exams, the IELTS has an
expiry date after two years.

Primary schoolteachers Primary school teachers

required to have a CAE
certificate OR an IELTS
band 7.
Visa application For those who are
thinking of emigrating
to New Zealand or
Australia, an IELTS
certificate is required (
at least a band 6)
Britishuniversity Anyone who is
interested in studying at
a British university, will
be asked to have an
IELTS certifcate.

WHAT IS TOEFL?InformationThe TOEFL is only valid for 2 years . It
is recognised by over 9,000
institutions worldwide.Students
receive a score ranging from 0 to 30
in each section. Students receive an
overall score ranging from 0 to 120
for the entire test.It is, therefore,
essential to check the minimum
score that you need for university
requirements.
