Welcome to Scion. You’ve joineda select group of car buyers:people who want a vehicle
that sets them apart from the crowd. We created the car, but you made ityour own — reflecting your life and yourown sense of style.
Of course, quality and reliability are justas important as a stylish ride. After all,if the ride doesn’t go, what’s the point?Which is the point of Scion’s excellentwarranty coverage. We stand behindthe quality of our vehicles. This booklettells you just how much.
Your satisfaction is really important tous, so occasionally we may create aspecial policy adjustment to pay forcertain repairs that are no longercovered by warranty. When we do this,we mail details to the owners we haveon record. That’s why it’s important tosend in the card at the back of thisbooklet if you move or if you boughtyour Scion from a previous owner. Justtear out the card and drop it in themail; you don’t even have to put astamp on it.
We want you to be confident that yourride will keep you on the road — andthat Scion will keep you covered whenyou need it. We think you’ll feel prettygood about that after taking a look atthis booklet. Again, welcome to Scion!
This booklet describes the terms ofScion warranty coverage as well asgeneral owner responsibilities. Thescheduled maintenance sectiondescribes your vehicle’smaintenance requirements. Be sureto look it over pretty carefully, sinceproper maintenance is required toensure that warranty coverageremains intact.
All the info in this booklet is the latestavailable at the time of publication and, with the exception of the emissioncontrol warranties, is subject to changewithout notice.

THE NEWWORLD OFANTI-THEFTTECHNOLOGYThis Scion vehicle may be equippedwith an electronic “immobilizer”anti-theft system. When the key isinserted into the ignition switch ittransmits an electronic code to animmobilizer computer. The engine willonly start if the code in the key matchesthe code in the immobilizer. If the codedoes not match, the immobilizerdisables the ignition and fuel systems. While an exact physical copy of the keywill open the door and allow retrieval ofitems locked in the vehicle, it won’tstart the vehicle unless the key has thesame code as the immobilizer.
SECURITYFor security purposes, access to keycodes and service procedures forelectronically registering replacementkeys is restricted. Only an AuthorizedServicing Dealership* or certainbonded/registered independentlocksmiths can generate replacementkeys.
* For the purposes of this system, an Authorized Servicing Dealership is a Scion dealership or a Toyotadealership.

REPLACING THE KEYUpon purchase, each vehicle shouldhave two master keys and analuminum tag with a key-codeimprinted on it.
To generate a fully functionalreplacement key (one that will bothopen the doors and start the engine),one of the master keys is required. Tomake a key that will open the door forretrieval of items locked inside thevehicle, the aluminum key-code tag canbe used. If a master key or thealuminum key-code tag is not available,an Authorized Servicing Dealership orcertain registered locksmiths canobtain the key code from arestricted-access database. Thesebusinesses can also access a serviceutility to reprogram the immobilizer ifall registered master keys have beenlost. If an Authorized ServicingDealership is not available, please referto www.aloa.org to find abonded/registered locksmith whoperforms high security key service.
KEEPING THE KEY SAFEReplacing an immobilizer key may becostly. It is advisable to keep a sparemaster key and the aluminum key-codetag in a safe place. If you record thekey-code in more than one place, donot record it in a way that can be easilyidentified and associated with thevehicle. It is wise to keep a copy of thekey-code outside of the vehicle.
If the vehicle was delivered with lessthan two keys and the aluminumkey-code tag, consider having anAuthorized Servicing Dealership or aqualified independent automotivelocksmith make a duplicate key beforeyou need it.

REPLACEMENT PARTSTo ensure optimum performance andmaintain the quality built into yourvehicle’s emission control systems,Scion recommends the use of ScionAuthorized Parts when servicing orrepairing the systems.
Warranty coverage is not dependentupon the use of any particular brandof replacement parts, and you mayelect to use non–Scion AuthorizedParts for maintenance and repairs. However, use of replacement partsthat are not equivalent in quality toScion Authorized Parts may impairthe effectiveness of the emissioncontrol systems.
If you use replacement parts that havemaintenance or replacement schedulesdifferent from those of ScionAuthorized Parts, you must follow themaintenance and replacementschedules for the parts you are using. In addition, you should ensure thatsuch parts are warranted by theirmanufacturers to be equivalent toScion Authorized Parts.
IF YOUR VEHICLE FAILSAN EMISSIONS TESTIf your vehicle fails an EPA-approvedemissions test, you may make a claimunder the Emission PerformanceWarranty. To do so, take your vehicle toan Authorized Servicing Dealership andpresent a copy of the emissions testreport. Also, take your maintenancerecords in case they are needed.
If your claim qualifies for coverage, thedealership will repair your vehiclewithin 30 days (unless a shorter periodis required by law). If your claim isdenied, Scion will notify you in writingof the reason within the same period. Ifwe fail to do so, we will repair yourvehicle free of charge.
