According to the 2001 census, Saint John is Canada’s third fattest city
•Nearly 60% of the population being overweight
•34% being youth between the ages of 12 and 17
•Children from low-income communities are most at risk
•Saint John has the highest child poverty rate in Canada (1 in 3)
•Municipally initiated recreation strategies are the most effective
The goal of the Fundy Skateboard Association is to raise the $650,000 required to construct a world class skateboard park on Saint John’s waterfront.
The design, paid for by the City of Saint John, is complete and the focus is now on raising the capital required to construct the park under the viaduct near Harbour Station.
