Presidents Report
The mid-year break is over and after the planned Nine and
Dine last Wednesday we are back to normal meetings this
week. With the temperature in the high 30’s to low 40’s it was
not prudent to play golf so it became a Wine and Dine with 47
members and guests enjoying the evening at the magnificent
Yarra Yarra Golf Club
Congratulations to Fred
and his International
team who have been
successful in obtaining
a $4,000 District Grant
for a new toilet block
and upgraded shower
block for girls at the stu-
dent hostel in Sabu
(see page 2).
Greg Every has been
busy over the break
finalising the program
for the next six months and putting together a profile on each
of the upcoming speakers to provide members with more in-
formation. Over the next few weeks we have;
Debbie Keyt; About Beaumaris Theatre Group - January23
Kerryn Redpath; Schools Drugs & Alcohol – January 30Tina Dent; Sandybeach Community Centre – February 6
These are just some of great speakers planned with a diverserange of interesting subjects which will provide ample oppor-
tunities to invite potential members.
The week of February 13, VGC are hosting a Women’s Golf
Tournament which means we will not be able to meet at our
usual venue.
That week however, Bentleigh Moorabbin Central is arranging
a cluster meeting on Youth Services at the Buckingham on
Tuesday 11th February. RCOB ran this event last year at the
Beaumaris and the quality of speakers (most of them youngpeople) was extremely high. The target audience this year is
again school leaders not involved with Rotary programs, new
principals & those only occasionally involved.

The purpose of the meeting is to spread the good news
about the wonderful Youth Service programs run in Dis-
trict 9810 and how these programs contribute to the de-
velopment of young people, their school and the broader
community. It is an excellent opportunity for us to invite
a few of our local school leaders and showcase youthprograms and our involvement with them.
Hopefully we can book a couple of tables of 10 and have
a few school representatives with us. A two course din-
ner will be served for $40 per person for the meeting
starting at 6.00pm; Ken Mirams will be co-ordinating at-
tendance with numbers required by January 31.
Past members, Clare and
Bill McAlaney will be in
Melbourne that same weekand were hoping to attend
our meeting and catch up.
Clare has also finished her
book “Things you need to
know about Bali” and had
offered to donate some of
the proceeds from any
sales back to the club. It
would have been good to
catch up with Bill and
Clare however this trip ourtimetables didn’t align.
It was also good to hear from Chris Martin on the pro-
gress of his assignment in Vietnam which is covered lat-
er in this issue.
See you back at VGC.
