A special announcement from Bishop Joe Vásquez:
Over the years, I have been personally inspired by the love that the people of our Diocese have for the Blessed Virgin Mary, and how this love is expressed in beautiful devotions across various cultures.
Therefore, in this Fatima centennial year and in the 70th year since the founding of our diocese, I have decided to consecrate the local church of the Diocese of Austin to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
On Dec. 10, I have asked all priests and people to join me in a solemn prayer of consecration to the Mother of God, asking for her maternal help and protection. In doing so we are not only entrusting ourselves to her loving heart, but we are asking her to bring us ever closer to her Son, Jesus.
I thank you for your continued prayers for me, our Auxiliary Bishop Daniel Garcia, and for the Diocese of Austin. May God bless you.
Dear parishioners,The statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe in our church building
will be replaced with a new statue. The people of our parish have a loving devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the desire for a brighter statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe is now fulfilled. The former statue will be donated to a Catholic church to place in an area for veneration there.
The new statue is carved of wood and painted by hand with the application of gold leaf. The effect will be bright and luminous drawing the attention of people who come to the church to pray. Statues are placed in a church for a special purpose. Since the earliest days of the Church, the faithful have made pilgrimages to holy places that are primarily the sites of miracles and apparitions. Many people travel to Mexico City to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe where they present their heartfelt prayers before Our Lady. We believe that to visit a blessed statue in the parish church with the same intention of presenting heartfelt prayers is the same as undertaking a long trip to visit a shrine in a faraway place. For this reason, candles are often available to light around principal shrines in a parish church to accentuate the experience of a pilgrimage.
Our Bishop Joe Vasquez and Auxiliary, Daniel Garcia will preside at the Diocesan Celebration Mass for our Lady of Guadalupe here, at Santa Cruz on Saturday, December 9. At the Mass, both bishops will consecrate and enthrone the statue.
Additionally, three tapestries will be placed behind and around the newly installed statue to create an intimate atmosphere for prayer. Of special interest is the pattern of the tapestry that is a reproduction of a historical textile from the sixteenth century, the same time period as the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Your Pastor,
Father David.
LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR/CARTA DE NUESTRO PARROCO
Padre David.

Santa Cruz Church, Buda, Texas Primer Domingo de Adviento
Dear parishioners,The Season of Advent has begun. During this time Holy Church
asks us to prepare our hearts for the celebration of the Nativity. This year, the Fourth Sunday of Advent is also Christmas Eve. So, in prac-tical terms, we have only three weeks to prepare although we observe the four Sundays. As we watch the candles of the Advent wreath being lit, we can mark time until the day when we will welcome the Light of the World into our lives and our world at Christmas.
Daily Mass will be celebrated in the church for the Season of Advent beginning tomorrow, Monday December 4. The larger space of the church will accommodate more people who resolve to participate in Holy Mass during the weekdays. We are blessed that our parish has a beautiful adoration chapel that serves as a place of perpetual Eucharistic adoration. Please consider both Daily Mass and Eucharistic Adoration as the premier way to walk the path of holiness.
“He summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them, ‘Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. … What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?’” (Mark 8:34,36)
The Advent Penance Service is scheduled for this week, Wednesday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. Ten priests have generously offered to serve as Confessors. The forgiveness that is offered through the Sacrament of Penance is the most precious gift we could receive and so let us approach God who is the Father of Mercies so that our soul may be filled with the light of grace and forgiveness.
Most merciful God, Father in heaven, relying on your goodness and mercy I come to you with confidence to confess my sins and to implore your forgiveness. Bless me and receive me again into your favor. I desire from this day forward to walk in the way of holiness in accordance with your holy will. Amen.
The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary a Holy Day of Obligation is a special celebration to commemorate the endowment of the Our Lady with the full grace of God that prepared her to conceive and to give birth to the Savior of the World. Two Masses are scheduled on Thursday evening, December 7 at 6:00 and on Friday morning, December 8 at 8:00.
On Saturday, December 9 a new statue of Our Lady of Guada-lupe for our church, will be consecrated by both Bishop Joe Vasquez and Bishop Daniel Garcia. The diocesan celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe will take place here at Santa Cruz. The statue is an original work of art and was recently completed at a workshop in Mexico City.
Our Bishop Joe Vasquez has composed a Prayer of Consecra-tion to be read in all the churches of the Diocese of Austin at the Sunday Masses next weekend, December 9/10. The purpose is the Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This extraordi-narily beautiful prayer will dedicate and place all of the churches and the faithful of the Diocese under the grace and the protection of Our Lady.
Your Pastor,
Father David.
LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR/CARTA DE NUESTRO PARROCOQueridos Feligreses,
Padre David.

Sponsor-A-Youth! We will be participating in DCYC again this year! Many students would like the opportunity to participate but their families struggle financially. DCYC gives our youth an opportunity to learn about and grow in the Catholic faith with over 2,000 youth throughout the diocese.
Youth will participate in adoration, reconciliation, workshops and mass with the Bishop. Their relationship with Christ will be strength-en and they will return to our parish filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit! This year’s DCYC theme is “Fully Alive”.
Please keep our youth, our ministry team and our volunteers in your prayers as we plan and prepare for this year’s DCYC. Please prayerfully consider sponsoring a youth this year, cost of the event is $215 per participant. If you are interested in sponsoring a youth or making a partial donation or have questions, please contact the Religious Education & Youth Ministry Office at 512-312-2520.

ALL SANTA CRuz PARISh MINISTRIES AND ORGANIzATION LEADERS are asked to submit your 2018 requests for pulpit talk, narthex, and portico requirements to Tom Hughes, coordinator. A memo was delivered to each organization and ministry mail box in the church office the week of November 17, 2017.
Simply make your plans now for 2018 and drop off a note to the office with my name. If you prefer, send an e-mail to: [email protected]. If you have any questions call me at (512) 757-3573 or send an e-mail.
Those organizations that submit their requests by Monday, Dec. 18, 2017 will be considered for the first-round allocations.
Guidelines are in the memo left in your mailbox at the office. However, it is important to note a change for 2018 is that requests made less than two (2) weeks prior to a weekend date in 2018 will not be considered. The focus for 2018 is to provide our parishioners with a rich spiritual experience as they enter the Church for Mass. At the same time, it is understood ministries and organizations have financial and informational requirements to support their missions and the Parish. The balance is pre-planning on the part of each organization.
There is no intent to fill each weekend with activities in the narthex and portico. The intent is to provide the opportunity to those who plan ahead. Thank you for your cooperation.
You are strongly encouraged to plan now for 2018.
