TheseismichazardmapdepictsthegeographicdistributionofthePeakGroundAcceleration(PGA)witha10%probabilityofbeingexceededin50years,computed for reference rockconditions (shearwavevelocity,Vs30,of760-800m/s).Theseismichazardmapsdisplayed in thecountryprofilesarebasedontheGlobalEarthquakeModel(GEM)GlobalSeismicHazardMap(version2018.1),clippedtothecountryboundary.TheGlobalSeismic Hazard Map was created by collating maps computed using national and regional probabilistic seismic hazard models developed byvariousinstitutionsandprojects,andbyGEMFoundationscientists.
Theaverageannual lossrepresentsthe long-termmean lossvalueperyearduetodirectdamagecausedbyearthquakegroundshaking intheresidential,commercialandindustrialbuildingstock,consideringstructuralandnon-structuralcomponentsandbuildingcontents.
Theaverageannuallossratioforthecountry(orsubdivision)representstheaverageannuallossnormalizedbythetotalassetreplacementcostwithinthecountry(orsubdivision).
The200-year returnperiod loss represents the long-termmean lossvaluedue todirectdamagecausedbyearthquakegroundshaking in theresidential,commercialandindustrialbuildingstock,consideringstructuralandnon-structuralcomponentsandbuildingcontents,thatisexpectedtobeequalledorexceededatleastonceevery200years.
TheOpenQuake-engine,anopen-sourceseismichazardandriskcalculationsoftwaresupportedbytheGEMFoundation,wasusedtocalculatethehazardandriskmetricspresentedinthecountryprofiles.
Themapsandriskestimatesdisplayed inthiscountryprofile,andtheunderlyingdatabasesarebasedonbestavailableandpubliclyaccessibledatasetsandmodels.Theseismichazard,exposureandvulnerabilitymodelsemployedinthesecalculationswereprovidedbynationalinstitutions,ordevelopedwithinthescopeofregionalprogramsorbilateralcollaborations.
Thecriterionusedfortheselectionofthemajorearthquakesfordisplayinthecountryprofilesconsideredearthquakescausingthelargestnumberoffatalitiesthatoccurredinthelast100years(1918-2018).Fatalitiesduetotsunamiswereexcluded.
